The Brussels Philharmonic orchestra has chosen the Japanese conductor Kazushi Ono as its next music director, succeeding Stéphane Denève a year from now.

Ono was music director of La Monnaie opera from 2002 to 2008.

Brussels never looks far beyond the familiar.

    Yeah, Pappano and Castellucci were household names when their careers were launched in/by Brussels.

    Familiarity sometimes makes one aware of the virtues of someone that might otherwise be overlooked. Ono is very good and I doubt Brussels would hire a de la Parra simply because she were familiar.

    Ono has been chief conductor at Barcelona Symphony for many years, not leaving a particular trace. But it is more fault of disastrous management team of L’Auditori, the actual even worse than the precedent.
