The death has been announced of James M. Orent, music director of the Brockton Symphony Orchestra for the past 14 years and a regular performer with the Boston Pops as violinist and guest conductor.

Its chief, Keith Lockhart, described him as the ‘unofficial assistant conductor’ of the Boston Pops. Orent was 67.

He would fly his 1977 Cessna Cardinal RG aircraft to engagements across the eastern US. His violin once belonged to Arthur Fiedler’s father.

  • TruthSeeker says:

He died of “sudden heart failure.” Was he vaccinated? Especially for the health of the people who have taken this shot it is important to know what is happening.

    • True North says:

You don’t have to take the vaccine – it’s only for those of us who want a better chance at surviving Covid. If you don’t want the shot, don’t take it.

    • Brian Bell says:

Though I didn’t know Jim well, I would be shocked if hadn’t been fully vaccinated. He seemed to be in perfect health every time I saw him. According to this Boston Globe obit, he had just finished a sky-dive, which he had done hundreds of times.

A wonderful guy, whose talent and professionalism were there in spades, and he was such a friendly and easy-going personality. He’ll be missed.

    • Tamino says:

It’s unlikely to know if that played a role in individual cases. Only statistically such correlation could be observed.
As you probably know, men in their 60s have been dying of sudden heart failures before.

That’s if you are a truth seeker indeed, not an irrational moron.

    • Bill says:

Just about everyone who has died in the last month ate something in the weeks preceding their death. Maybe eating is the culprit!

    • Mathias Broucek says:

Yes, vital that these matters are discussed on a music website #sarcasm

    • BRUCEB says:

      (a) it is important to realize that nobody ever died from “sudden heart failure” before the COVID vaccines came along.

      (b) How about if you do some research and get back to us? Thanks.

  • BF says:

    Keith Lockhart….not James…!!!!!

  • James was a great man and colleague, a quite brilliant fellow who was welcome wherever he went. Loved and respected by all, his unexpected loss is a terrible shock. May he rest well.

  • Stephen Lord says:

No!! One of my VERY FAVORITE people from my 16 years as music director @ Boston Lyric Opera. He was always there, playing up a storm. He was so supportive musically AND personally. Oh, James, rest well and happily.
