The German director Uwe Eric Laufenberg has notified the Hesse state government that he will step down as intendant of the state opera in Wiesbaden in 2125, when he is 65. The government had been in no hurry to discuss his contract, which was due shortly for renewal.

Laufenberg has run the opera since 2014.

He earned notoriety with a bloodbath Parsifal at Bayreuth two years later.
