The Russian-Austrian soprano cancelled a recital tour at the weekend and flew home to be at her father’s deathbed.

She posted this message: ‘Papa, thank you for life. You really had a happy one. Your large family and friends will always miss you and it’s hard to understand that you have left this garden forever.’

Eternal rest.

There is a wonderful video of her with her dad at his home when her career was young that conveys their closeness and his warmth and intelligence.

Shame on everyone who doubted the (accurately) stated reasons for cancelling the performances. My condolences.

The announcenent could have been more honest to avoid all the doubt. But may he rest in peace. A big loss when one loses their dad, however old you are.
