The international cellist has cancelled concerts with ‘mild symptoms’ of the pandemic.

LA Phil has replaced her as tonight’s soloist with its principal cello.

LA Phil Principal Cello Robert deMaine will replace Alisa Weilerstein in this Thursday’s performance of “Dudamel Conducts Beethoven & Falla.” We are saddened to learn that cellist Alisa Weilerstein has tested positive for COVID-19 prior to her scheduled trip to Los Angeles. We are grateful that Alisa has mild symptoms. We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to her next performance with us.

    Get your shots, folks !

Does anyone know if she was vaccinated?

    • Samantha says:

      Yes, she was.

      • Hayne says:

Let’s face it, vaccinated or unvaccinated, most of us will contract the virus. If it’s treated early, this whole thing will be gone in natural population herd immunity and the whole experimental jabs will be unnecessary.

        • Saxon says:

If you haven’t had the virus, then getting the vaccine is a sensible precaution regardless of whether others have had the virus or the vaccine. Getting “early treatment” really isn’t going to make any difference to that.

What the policy should be in the future is an open question about which there is debate. The BBC website (I guess most think they are a reputable news organisation) hints at some of this debate: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58270098

          • Hayne says:

Pfizer and Moderna trials showed no proof of efficacy for giving the jab to people who already had covid19.
From the BBC article, “There is clear evidence that adults who have not had any vaccine dose will have stronger immune defenses if they do get vaccinated, EVEN IF THEY HAVE CAUGHT COVID BEFORE.” That is obviously not true by even a cursory review of prior cases going back decades. Why would the “trusted” BBC wright this? Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funding. Yes, follow the money.
The Delta variety has an Ro of about 8 which is 3x higher than the original alpha.
Vaccinated people have protection of about 50-60%. That’s it. That’s why these varieties are developing through natural selection to get around the “leaky” vaccines. If you are vaccinated and become infected the virus will replicate at the same OR HIGHER rates than unvaccinated people who are infected.
Your risk of developing severe disease or dying is higher than an unvaccinated person. There are early protocols to deal with this. Whatever one does, for God’s sake DON’T get a booster.

. . . and how has that laxed, ‘herd immunity’ approach worked out so far in Sweden, hmmmm?

  • Tom says:

If her Twitter feed is any indication, she was. She regularly urges her followers to get vaccinated. In addition, her Facebook post announcing her positive test mentioned that she is vaccinated.

  • PaulD says:

I just saw her perform the Schumann last week in Sun Valley. Best wishes to her for speedy recovery.
