The Verbier Festival has reduced its orchestra to chamber size for the opening concert, after ordering most members of the festival orchestra into isolation due to a Covid outbreak.

Valery Gergiev will conduct a small ensemble in Prokofiev’s First Symphony and Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto, with Denis Matsuev as soloist.

not much of a concert either – by your account, with just two relatively slender works. It’s a wonder Gergiev feels it worth the bother flying in, if his plane is late he could miss the first half, which might improve things… lol

to clarify, that is the part of the program from 18:00 to 19:15, then from 20:15 to 21:45 they are playing
    BEETHOVEN
Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor Op. 37
    &
    PROKOFIEV
Symphony No. 1 in D major Op. 25 “Classical”

I assume that is two short programs on the same evening due to Covid restrictions.
