The experimental, formerly minimalist composer Jeremy Peyton Jones has died. His passing was announced by his wife, Claire:

My darling beloved husband Jeremy died on the 22nd July after enduring bravely a long and torturous mental illness. I am so grateful for all the many happy memories; all the sailing, music and family life together, and our adventures together. It wasn’t plain sailing, but for the love and life he gave me, it was worth it all. May he rest in peace, and I have no doubt, will rise in glory. I didn’t say goodbye, but I have faith I can say hello one day.

Jeremy taught at Goldsmiths and was conductor and artistic director of the ensemble Regular Music II.

Very sad news. I had a brief period of study with him as an exchange student at Goldsmiths. He was a very thoughtful and competent teacher/musician. RIP.

Shame- sounds like a sophisticated creative voice. Was he Bipolar?
