The Bavarian State Opera, under Serge Dorny’s new management, has posted this statement of intent:

“Every person is a masterpiece. In their eyes the sorrow and the yearning to be loved. In their heart experiences and memories, as in yours. And on their head the skullcap, like a royal crown.
Each of us a king.”

In this way, the Bavarian State Opera challenges the view of the other, of what’s special outside of the norm, and sees diversity as a strength of our society. “It is the special, the highest good. A society must celebrate its differences, otherwise it doesn’t exist. Every person is king or queen,” says Serge Dorny.

Definitely pretentious. Season looks very good though, you can view on their website

    • Clarissa says:

That season is the result of previous direction. Opera is planned and cast years in advance. Dorney’s season will be two years from now likely.

    Who pays for the party?

is this really happening? The guy who messed it up in lyon, dresden and everywhere else where he comes now in Munich? A guy who has now real idea about opera what is was as and is as an art form really got a job in Munich?
Poor people there, fasten your seatbelts

    wokeism

  • John Borstlap says:

I get more diverse by the day, but since that is happening with everybody around me, I don’t see any difference.

  • Marfisa says:

I hate to spoil the fun, but SD has omitted to tell us that this is a quote from the Hungarian writer Dezső Kosztolányi (d. 1936).

And is a poignant expression of universal human experience really so pretentious?

Here, in any case, is Dorny’s full statement: https://next.staatsoper.de/editorial/editorial-dorny.

    Bonne chance !!!

You should write: “veel geluk” and a better title would have been: “Hoogmoedig! Ik?”. Dorny is a Fleming and his mother language is Dutch; the language of 60% of all Belgians. He was a friend of Gerard (and not Gérard) Mortier.

Thanks as ever for the blatantly slanted and click-baity framing of this issue!
