The German tenor has announced his Texas debut:

Houston Grand Opera is proud to announce An Evening with Jonas Kaufmann, a special, one-night event with international tenor Jonas Kaufmann on October 6, 2021, at the Wortham Theater Center. Kaufmann’s highly anticipated HGO debut, and first-ever Houston performance, is the chance of a lifetime for opera lovers.

Following the concert, an intimate and elegant dinner will take place at the newly renovated Four Seasons Houston. Table underwriter packages range from $10,000 to $50,000; while individual tickets for the concert and dinner range from $1,000 to $5,000.

  • Henry williams says:

He has to think of his pension. Bless him.

  • Byrwec Ellison says:

I’d rather see that money go to Houston Grand Opera than to Texas politics.

    • Maurice says:

Don’t HGO stand to profit from it as promoters/risk-takers? Genuinely wondering what you mean by ‘Texas politics’.

      • Sue Sonata Form says:

That’s easy; the ‘lumpen prols’ and knuckle draggers who voted for Trump!! Don’t you love it when social superiority means you get to feel big by making others feel small. Condescension worthy of the British aristocracy. And the Bosheviks turned it into an art form!!

        • jaypee says:

Based on your usual comments, the last person who should criticize people for “making others feel small” is you.
Funny how fans of the big orange fool get so sensitive when they get the “orange” treatment.

  • Musicman says:

Gelb must be mortified that he is appearing at HGO next year but is not scheduled to sing at the MET!

  • Andy says:

Good for him. He must have lost vast amounts of fee income in the last 18 months. Presumably he will be remunerated significantly and there will also be funds raised for the organisation.

  • William Lansbury says:

Dislike the voice, but good for him? This is disgusting, money and the arts….god bless the Houston opera company

  • William Lansbury says:

Can’t stand his voice, but good for him? Its disgusting, money and the arts….god bless the HGO

  • Jane says:

Good for him. He’s not the first and won’t be the last. Anything more newsworthy happening?

  • RW2013 says:

    More $s than sense.

  • Bloom says:

    Intimate and elegant whoring around.

  • Dr. Shirley Rombough says:

Bravo Maestro Kauffman. Brilliant tenor and musician. I hope to arrange to attend.

  • Robin Worth says:

    wer ewig strebend………………

  • Ragnar Danneskjoeld says:

Child support doesn’t pay for itself.

  • Amand says:

What will be next? Will he be singing “money makes the world go round”? I cannot imagine a tackier spectacle , singing and dining and overpaying for it. Nothing certainly is above, or below Kaufmann. Shame.

  • M.Y.Vest says:

    re pug nant…….

  • Pebbles says:

Thanks for the information I’m gonna buy a ticket immediately.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

There has to be a way of recouping financial losses post lockdowns. Good on Jonas; easy on the eye too!!
