An orchestral cellist, Laura Armstrong, has told a London court how surgeons almost amputed her arm after it was trapped and wrecked by a turning truck.

Laura, 25, was cycling in east London, on her way to meet friends for lunch.

She was studying for a masters at the time with Raphael Wallfisch.

She said: “I have very little feeling in my right hand and limited movement in my arm and my greatest challenge is not knowing what the future holds for my career and if I will be able to become a cellist.

“I have an incredible professor, Raphael Wallfisch, and the Royal College of Music has helped me throughout my recovery. Music is hugely important to me so I am determined to keep trying.”

That is so terrible!! I’m so sorry this must happen to a young aspiring string player! From my hart, I wish all the best and patience with the recovery process!

This is a really tough situation for Laura – my sympathy goes to her.

It must be the sword of Damocles hanging over every professional player.

Even as an amateur musician I dread an injury which would stop me playing.

How awful. I hope she recovers.
