German maestro takes third job in the US
UncategorizedLast year, Jun Märkl became chief conductor in Taiwan and music director in Malaysia.
Now the much-travelled Seiji Ozawa protege, 62, has been named artistic advisor to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, effectively chief conductor while they search for their next music director.
‘Jun has helped enormously in crafting and establishing the theme for the upcoming 2021-22 classical season, already putting his stamp on the ISO and its future,’ says an orch official.
Whaaaaat? No female conductor was offered the position?

Actually it is his first job in the US.
If he’d put in a comma, it would have helped. I suspect clarity was not his goal.

I’d say that the ISO is artistically in good hands! Reminds me of the Leinsdorf interlude at Cleveland, post-Maazel.
