The peripatetic Lithuanian Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla will coduct the Concertgebouw next month in Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3 and Weinberg’s Symphony No. 3.

The orchestra lacks a music director, and Mirga is on the loose after quitting the UK.

Also coducting in Amsterdam 9is the young Finn Klaus Mäkelä and the Italian Fabio Luisi.

The longlist lengthens.

yeah yeah, so what? conductors make debuts all the time. good to see the crush has not waned. schmuck.

    • Jouko says:

Yes, Mäkelä will return to Amsterdam in May and that will be the third time this season: highly remarkable for a newcomer, I suppose.

      • Concertgebouw79 says:

He did also the very important Christmas afternoon concert. But he will not be the next musical director because he has already new duties in Paris and Oslo. But yes there’s a strong sign that the oarchestra and him match perfectly i saw it for la mer and Sibelius 1. And at the RCO when it don’t work we know quickly. Directors are not call a second time quickly

        • Mark Norton says:

He will indeed be the next MD , isn’t it clear?

          • Concertgebouw79 says:

In 2032 or 2037 maybe. But the RCO does very frenquently concerts with other conductors with less publicity there Fischer (the real musical director even if it’s not official) Chung (my choice) Gergiev or a younger who seems to have a very good reputation inside the orchestra, the french François-Xavier Roth

          • Rogerio says:

            Picture this.
Mirga conducting an all-black orchestra (I mean the New Zealand national rugby team), with Lola playing the piano solo.
A concert which would live in infamy.

          • John Kelly says:

Only because the All Blacks are lousy musicians………..

    • Gustavo says:

Christian Thielemann doesn’t make debuts all the time.

  • Gustavo says:

    Franz Liszt

  • RW2013 says:

    Deborah still hasn’t called?!

  • John Kelly says:

It would be great if Fabio Luisi were invited to be chief conductor at the Concertgebouw. Another Italian following Chailly. However, I think he has enough commitments currently so probably wouldn’t bet on it…………

    • G.G says:

Sounds like a joke, since Luisi wouldn’t be the next Italian following Chailly at Concertgebouw. If it was a joke, I’m sorry for been naive.

  • Eusebius says:

Mirga’s meteoric rise out of nowhere is quite breathtaking to behold.
