It’s not all one-way traffic.

Finland, a net exporter of conductors, has named a UK chief for the remote northwestern town of Oulu:

The British conductor Rumon Gamba has been appointed as Chief Conductor of Oulu Symphony Orchestra. He will start his three-year term in January 2022. Conductor, composer and violinist Jaakko Kuusisto has been appointed as Artistic Partner of the orchestra.

    Interesting: orchestra of 61 musicians (according to the ass. of Finnish symphony orchs.; although it looks like the core is closer to 40), with a hall that seats 800, in a city of 200,000.
    Maybe they will add to Chandos’ Madetoja catalog.

      Finland has 30 professional orchestras for a population of 5.5 million.
      That’s more orchestra musicians per capita than Germany …
