It is with considerable regret that the Opernhaus Zürich, in conversation with the Canton of Zurich, announces the cancellation of the opera and ballet performances planned for March, up through and including Easter Monday on April 5, 2021.

  • A would-be concertgoer says:

Western European countries have been so timid with restrictions, that I don’t expect concert halls to reopen at all this year. Even after summer’s end when mass vaccination is complete, some Western scientific advisers are claiming that social distancing must last until the whole planet is vaccinated, to prevent new COVID variants.

What I don’t understand is the reluctance of musicians to organize politically to challenge the lockdowns. In Poland, for instance, the ruling party has privately been worrying that it made a misstep with the last lockdown and it will cost them in the next elections, because polls find the majority of the population now opposed. (And their concerts halls are re-opening in mid-February.) Why isn’t the arts community elsewhere banding together to send a message about punishing the fiercest pro-lockdown politicians and rewarding ones favouring less restrictions?

“What I don’t understand is the reluctance of musicians to organize politically to challenge the lockdowns.” Trust me. You don’t want to know.

[Even after summer’s end when mass vaccination is complete, some Western scientific advisers are claiming that social distancing must last until the whole planet is vaccinated, to prevent new COVID variants.] Oh yeah, well, tell that to India, Great White Father, and see how much of a shit they give. I hear from friends back home in Canada that the pandemic’s precipitate retreat in India has recently been more and more remarked upon in Western media, with wonder. But is it really so mysterious? See ya after your last panic attack over the virus’s last microaggression in twenty twenty-five, snowflakes.

      Baa, baa, baa… that’s why.

Where can I find a good Canton-ese restaurant in Zurich?

  • Marcello says:

Cancellations include all performances of Don Pasquale and Werther in April.
