Vienna mourns banned pianist, nothing from Bayreuth

The Vienna Konzerthaus has issued a mourning notice for Stefan Mickisch, a popular pianist and musicologist who died unexpectedly this weekend, aged 58.

Since his first performance at the Vienna Konzerthaus in June 1992, Stefan Mickisch was connected to this house for almost 30 years. His conversation concerts in the Mozart Saal, which were designed by the concert wing of moody and virtuoso, were very resonant and will be missed by us and many people.

Several Wagner socieites and festivals have exressed shock and condilences.

Nothing, however, from Bayreuth, where Mickisch gave pre-opera lectures until he was expelled two months ago for Covid dissidence.

Being Wagner means never having to say you’re sorry.

  • He was expelled from Villa Wahnfried which was a strange thing to do. Expelling unwanted individuals and avoiding the debate is a measure Onkel Wolf would have liked.

  • I love Mickisch, Wagner and the Bayreuth Festspiele and have no problem with socio-cultural diversity and freedom of speech.

I have signed copies of Mickisch’s second Parsifal introduction and René Kollo’s first Wagner essay.

The two times I was lucky to be in Bayreuth, I saw performances conducted by James Levine and Daniele Gatti.

    What do I do now?

  • Stefan had a brilliant mind and immense musical gifts. He had an almost messianic zeal to share his wisdom and insights. This passion could be experienced as supremely arrogant, but I never felt it was intentional. People with comet-like personalities as his sometimes scorch us mere mortals. I, for one, enjoyed the sport of standing near his heat and taking in the ethers. RIP and flourish with the great ones, Stefan!

  • The pre-opera talks, with demonstration on the piano of the nuances to be heard in a
piece and between pieces, by Wagner and by other composers, were not to be missed.
There was nothing quite like them offered by the various lecturers, French, or American,
speaking the same day. The enthusiasm was such that one wanted to learn more, hear more,
    hear the connections, hints, reflections….
Indeed, RIP. He left too soon.

  • Herr Mickisch, you were brilliant. May you rest in peace. Good for you for sticking it to the government about their corona nonsense, too.

    • Gov’t Covid nonsense? As I type, 2,475,744 have died worldwide, and counting, in a year’s timeframe. And that figure is surely an undercount, as the numbers that China and Russia, to name just two suspect countries, have provided are not to be believed.

      • Why does the cumulative raw count of deaths due to one natural cause of death really matter?

        Justification of what?

Comfort for individuals with rare diseases?

      • In the USA they estimate half a milliom have passed away from COVID-19 a manufactured virus where Chinese lab in Wuhan was paid 3 and a half million a year for 8 years by obama/BIDEN adminstration to develop it. When the real numbers were reliesed they were hidden by the right arm of the dimocraps “the biased media” the real number exvluding dibetis, stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure and sugar, and all the other causes of death; the offical deaths due to COVID-19 the Obama/biden/chinese vorus stsnds at 6,580 yes by covid alone no other associated cause only 6,580
