The Federal University of Amazonas in brazil has announced ‘with a feeling of irreparable loss’ the death of Professor Vanessa Monteiro Lameira, of its piano faculty. Vanessa, who died yesterday of Covid-19,  leaves two daughters, aged 7 and 5, and a husband, Robinson, who is fighting for his life in hospital.

  • Jeffrey Biegel says:

This is horrific and terribly sad. This virus is no joke. So pray that her children have caretakers during this terrible time. Prayers to her husband.

  • Peter San Diego says:

How dreadful. Manaus, where the university is located, is having a hellish time. It was — mistakenly, it turns out — thought to have gained herd immunity via infection in the first wave, so restrictions were totally relaxed and vaccines were routed elsewhere. Now a second wave has hit the unprepared city with ferocity. I wonder if Bolsonaro is still dismissing the virus as causing merely sniffles.

  • Stereo says:

How anybody can say Covid doesn’t exist is a complete mystery!
