Martha Argerich will give a livestream concert with the Hamburg Symphony from the Laeiszhalle on Friday, February 19 at 7:00pm local.

It will be online here, free of charge.

Even more fun is a film clip the orch have released to Slipped Disc, showing Martha laughing uproarously at the piano.

Today’s greatest least-known living pianist is Grigory Sokolov. I find Martha great but predictable.

least known???? He is worshipped by thousnds of piano enthusiasts and there are many recordings for those who cannot get to his concerts. Martha…predictable!!!???? Ok she plays a narrow concerto repertoire in concert but listen to the Lugano cds…a collaborative musician of the highest order

    • and the next one is already there: Alexander MALOFEEV….!

  • IP says:

Don’t say she will surprise us all with the Ravel in G.

    Sadly, Chick Corea has died.

  • Rogerio says:

You know you have a classical musician in too high of a standing when you are in awe of the fact that she (it?) laughs like us.
Did Heifetz brush his (it’s?) teeth like people do?

    • David says:

Martha is not only admired for her genius, but for her unaffected endearing personality. She is adorable here in ways we don’t see during concerts (which is the only time most of us have to see Martha). If you don’t find it adorable, that’s fine, but it isn’t simply about putting a musician too high up on the pedestal. It’s basic humanity.

  • Nijinsky says:

I SAW THAT! The piano trying to sneak something up her sleeve!

  • Gustavo says:

    Argerich mich nicht!

  • Ed says:

    Still waiting for the Emperor.

  • Pianofortissimo says:

Sylvain Cambreling is more known as a conductor of noise music (he’s really good in the noisy business). His collaboration with Martha Argerich is in this sense remarkable.
