An Austrian composer on trial for shooting 32 birds has claimed befre a court in Linz that they were his competitors.

‘I didn’t do this for fun,’ said the unnamed defendant. ‘My existence was threatened.’

He was fined 3,000 Euros and his guns were confiscated.

    Messiaen fan, then?

  • Peter San Diego says:

Bartok needed total silence in order to compose — but he didn’t go around shooting birds (or other noisy neighbors).

    • SVM says:

Bartók’s hearing was legendary — according to a memoir by one of his pupils in the USA, he once located, at night, a missing kitten that had gone up a tree in the forest surrounding said pupil’s house (the pupil being the owner of the kitten), in which he was then staying.

    What!?

Only 3000 lousy Euros to settle a murder trial?

    That is not enough!

It proves once again the human disdain for non-human life.

No one will want to listen to such a composer’s output, anyway.

Hope he stops composing and rethinks his life.

      murder trial?? are you nuts??
if I see feral pigeons anywhere I shoot them too..
They are vermin, cos people feed them in urban areas then they sh..t all over everything.

Squirrels are tree rats (far too many of them).
Foxes are raiding dustbins in urban areas, shoot them…
Magpies are a nuisance, shoot them too.
wild pigs (boars) loads too many of them, shoot as many as possible, makes great barbecues….

In fact I’m not averse to shooting a few people (both CeauÈ™escu , Honecker and Milosevic richly deserved it but they only got ONE against the wall).
Jimmy Savile should have been shot too.

  • Naf Arepo says:

Indeed, Messiaen should be a key prosecution witness. With supporting affidavits from Sibelius, Beethoven, Ralph V Williams, Rameau, Wagner and Respighi. On the defense, possibly Puccini (who liked to go out shooting birds as part time pastime…)

  • JussiB says:

he didn’t like the melody he saw of birds on power lines.

  • Edgar says:

He should have learned from Messiaen and notate the birdsong.

  • Gustavo says:

Why is bird molster Papageno no problem while sexist Monostatos is supposed to receive human rights?
