Chick was a giant and an influencer before that word/concept has the coinage it does now. It breaks me to see so many of these folks leave us permanently. RIP.

Gulda was heavily into jazz improvisation, and caught a lot of grief from the stuffy old traditionalist faction in classical music who thought the purity of his classical style would somehow be besmirched.
In my opinion, his jazz excursions only improved his classical playing. His subtle and tasteful improvisations in Mozart concerti, for example, are the most natural and organic of any I’ve heard.
A big loss to the music world. Chick was a cross-genre giant IMHO.
