The Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho will perform the recently rediscovered Allegro in D K626b/16 at the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation on 27 January 2021, Mozart’s 265th birthday.

It can be heard online on Deutsche Grammophon’s DG Stage, with a short version on DG’s YouTube channel.

How short we can’t say as the piece lasts just 94 seconds.

“..the Allegro in D major K626b/16, a three-part, dancelike keyboard piece[…] The Mozarteum Foundation acquired Mozart’s autograph from a private collector before the current coronavirus pandemic. A detailed examination of the score has revealed that it is indeed a hitherto unknown keyboard piece notated by Mozart in his own hand and believed to date from early 1773, when Mozart was seventeen and either nearing the end
of his third visit to Italy or already back in Salzburg.”

  • Pianofortissimo says:

Is he going to play in that position? Or with the head down? Can he levitate (Giacinto Scelsi claimed to have done it, with the help of a guru)? Doesn’t he burn incense when he meditates, or is that pic just a photo session? Will he sight read or play by memory? Why is just he going to play that première (influent agent, DG’s influence, direct command from Mozart himself through a medium)? 🙂

  • Bogna says:

It is also 120 years from Giuseppe Verdi’s death. Both anniversaries are remembered by http://www.cinetecamilano.it streaming films under the title”120 years without Giuseppe Verdi and Mozart’s birth anniversary”.

  • Pamela Brown says:

New Mozart is always a delight…
