Portugal declares day of mourning for its Sinatra

The Portuguese government has declared a national day of mourning on Monday for fado singer Carlos do Carmo, who has died in hospital of an aortic aneurysm.

Carlos, 82, was known as the Portuguese Frank Sinatra, esteemed by intellectuals for his ‘moral elegance’.

    Respectfully, Mr. Lebrecht, a factual emendation is called for.

    Carlos do Carmo, born in 1939, was 81 at the time of death, not 69 as stated in the version of your article available online as of this writing.
