    Some wonderful news for people in the US!
    Ivermectin is now a therapeutic option for doctors and prescribers.

    Some cynics would say “allowing” this now is to help Biden look good down the road when deaths go down but I don’t care. NIH’s stance now is nothing but political.

    Interested people please talk to you doctor and inform yourselves.

    Dr. Kim Woo Joo, “If we want to be 100 per cent sure of the effectiveness, we need results from larger randonmised clinical trials.” Good point. That’s why there more and more studies coming, such as these.

    How could ivermectin be effective if the tissue concentrations needed to kill the virus would require a patient to take massive doses to achieve?
    The theory that ivermectin’s anti-viral activity is dependent on unachievable tissue concentrations is incorrect as follows:

    In the cell culture study by Caly et al from Monash University in Australia, although very high concentrations of ivermectin were used, this was not a human model. Humans have immune and circulatory systems working in concert with ivermectin, thus concentration required in humans have little relation to concentrations used in a laboratory cell culture. Further, prolonged durations of exposure to a drug likely would require a fraction of the dosing in a short-term cell model exposure.
    There are multiple mechanisms by which ivermectin is thought to exert its anti-viral effects, with the least likely mechanism that of the blocking of importins as theorized in the Monash study above. These other mechanisms are not thought to require either supraphysiologic doses or concentrations and include
    competitive binding of ivermectin with the host receptor-binding region of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, limiting binding to the ACE-2 receptor;
    binding to the SARS-CoV-2 RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), thereby inhibiting viral replication (Swargiary, 2020);
    binding/interference with multiple essential structural and non-structural proteins required by the virus in order to replicate.
    The theory that ivermectin would need supraphysiologic tissue concentration to be effective is most strongly disproven by the now 24 controlled clinical trials which used standard doses of ivermectin yet reported large clinical impacts in reducing rates of transmission, deterioration, and mortality.
    As I have said before, these articles are for people who aren’t afraid to think for themselves.
    BTW, Why aren’t you out there screaming about the lack of trials for the “vaccine?”

      Please desist from personal vituperation. It’s tedious and unnecessary.

      • William Safford says:

        Thank you for having removed or renamed several scurrilous attacks upon me. I appreciate it.

        I shall endeavor not to attack the individual.

        I would much rather discuss music.

        It makes me sad that so many people believe and repeat such hate and lies. I do my best to contradict and correct the lies, disinformation, misinformation, conspiracy theories, and quackery that are spread by sock puppets, trolls, and True Believers. That, along with rank bigotry, is sadly prevalent in many of the comments herein, and is tedious and unnecessary.

  • Hayne says:

    Pfizer claims “95per cent efficacy” even though not proven yet Dr. Kim Woo Joo wants 100 percent efficacy for Ivermectin. How many drugs are 100 per cent effective? Look at some of the lame results of statins for example.

  • BruceB says:

    One wonders what drew this person to a classical music blog since he never seems to show any interest in music…. hmmmm

    • William Safford says:

      Excellent point. That person always posts conspiracy dreck, fake news, discredited “sources,” and quackery.

      Perhaps a shill?

    • Hayne says:

      I do play in an orchestra. No, not really…because our “rulers” have banned my orchestra from playing, you ass! That’s right, I said it.
      It’s not my fault you missed some of my other posts. Let’s see, there are thousands of musicians out of work, billions of people suffering needlessly, people treated for covid19 badly, the coming loss of freedoms through censorship, etc and I write more about that than other music blogs. It’s called proportionality. I’m trying to help people see things for the better and to warn them also not to curl up and accept their fate from the “elites.” Most don’t give a damn, but I’m not writing for them anyway.
