Britain’s biggest pop festival will be unable to open this summer due to the effects and uncertainties of Covid-19, it has just been announced.

This will be the festival’s second blank year and there is widespread speculation of insolvency.

Glastonbury takes place in June. The era festivals of Glyndebourne and Garsington will view its cancellation with deep alarm.

    Schadenfreude…

  • Nijinsky says:

More Festivals to Follow, as the World Waits to see whether Norman Lebrcht will attack another Windmill.

  • Dennis says:

Disgraceful that people still refuse to wake up and act like sane human beings for an event that would take place nearly a year and a half into what has been for the last 9 months a PCR test-induced pseudo pandemic. I guess people are just happy to have life destroyed forever in the name of a virus that 99.98% of people survive contact with. What a disgusting world.

    • DONALD says:

As the father of a hospital nurse (herself the mother of two small children) who contracted Covid at work some 10 months ago and has been back nursing Covid patients since she recovered, I can assure you that the pandemic is not a pseudo-event nor is it induced by PCR or any other test.

What is disgusting is the denial of the plain facts.

    • Hayne says:

“It is incredible how as soon as a people become subject, it promptly falls into such complete forgetfulness of its freedom that it can hardly be roused to the point of regaining it, obeying so easily and willingly that one is led to say that this people has not so much lost its liberty as won its enslavement.”

    • Peter San Diego says:

I’d much rather read your opinions on music. Do you prefer Glastonbury or Glyndebourne?

      • Diane Valerie says:

Indeed, “Hayne” never posts anything about music. What is he/she doing on a supposed classical music site?

        • Hayne says:

Ha ha! Since you can’t really argue with me, you switch to this. Funny! It’s ok for you all to post your leftist non music points though:)
Glastonbury or Glyndebourne? Wrong side of pond for me.

        • Hayne says:

It seems to me the quote hits home a little to close, eh?

    • Stereo says:

      Just get real you idiot!

  • Pierre says:

    Verbier, will be next.

  • Andrew says:

Glastobury being cancelled is about the bestnews I have heard. Full of Champagne socialists wallowing in musical mediocraty. Let’s hope it sinks without trace.

    • Robin Smith says:

On the other hand it’s a huge positive for the economy and think of all that VAT paid into public coffers. I’ve never been but each to his own.

      • King Arthur says:

By ‘a huge positive for the economy’ I take it you mean the drug dealers? The festival’s continuing absence will be a major benefit for the environment given the aural pollution it generates and that post-festival waste “includes an estimated, 5,000 tents, 6,500 sleeping bags, 400 gazebos and 54 tonnes of cans and plastic bottles, all of which equates to roughly 1,650 tonnes of rubbish” which “costs up to £780,000 to dispose of… money that could be donated to a worthy charity” [https://www.junkhunters.co.uk/blog/clearing-waste-after-glastonbury-festival/]

  • Dr Tonreihe says:

Very pertinent about whether Woodstock 1969 happened “in middle of Hong Kong flu in US”. Arguably if there were PCR testing like today, it might well not have. But it is unlikely that a significant number came to harm because of attending an outdoors festival in mid-summer. The same likely holds true today. Different times. https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-factcheck-woodstock-pandemic-1968-idUSKBN22J2MJ
