Dr Fauci: Let the US arts follow the Germans

Dr Fauci: Let the US arts follow the Germans

January 10, 2021

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases told performing arts professionals that if the vaccination program was a success, performances could resume in the last third of 2021.

He said audiences might still be required to wear masks for a while longer.

He added: ‘What the performing arts needs to do is to do a little bit more of what the Germans are doing.’

  • Patricia says:

Fauci is a bureaucrat. He hasn’t been in a lab for decades. And he has been wrong before. Organizations are working things out without his help.

    • Tiredofitall says:

Exactly which organizations would these be? Please be more specific. I’m in the biz and couldn’t name one who can guarantee safety for their audience.

    • z-anon says:

Oh, absolutely. It’s not like he’s a health professional with years of medical training or anything.

      Get a grip.

      • Hayne says:

Kary Mullis, inventor of the PCR test (even though misused) on the brilliant Dr. Fauci…

        • William Safford says:

Yet again you cite pseudoscience and quackery.

Why do you feel so compelled to repeat such drivel, over and over again?

“Mullis expressed disagreement with the scientific evidence supporting climate change and ozone depletion, the evidence that HIV causes AIDS, and asserted his belief in astrology.[18] [42] Mullis claimed climate change and HIV/AIDS theories were promulgated by a Racketeering of environmentalists, government agencies, and scientists attempting to preserve their careers and earn money, rather than scientific evidence.[18] The medical and scientific consensus considers these hypotheses as pseudoscience[citation needed], HIV having been conclusively proven to be the cause of AIDS[43][44] and global warming strongly shown to be caused by human activities.[45][46][47]” (Wikipedia, with multiple citations)

          • Hayne says:

You mean THIS quack Kary Mullis?

            http://www.karymullis.com/biography.shtml
Just want to make sure since almost everybody who disagrees with you is labeled, fraud, quack, etc.
I must say your debating technique has much to be admired:)

          • William Safford says:

The question is: why do *you* keep repeating falsehoods, lies, quackery, right-wing crackpots, right-wing conspiracies, and more?

He can simultaneously have invented a useful device/procedure, *and* he can promote falsehoods.

He does just this. It was easy to ascertain. It took maybe two minutes of web searching to learn this fact.

It would be equally easy for you to ascertain these facts–if you were so inclined to learn about facts, instead of lies and frauds and conspiracies.

“Just want to make sure since almost everybody who disagrees with you is labeled, fraud, quack, etc.”

Stop reposting frauds, quacks, etc., and I’ll stop disagreeing with you about frauds, quacks, etc.

            It’s within your power.

Even better: stop believing that dreck. It poisons your mind.

“I must say your debating technique has much to be admired:)”

Debating? Debating?! Please present something to be debated!

You present lies, falsehoods, twisting of facts, conspiracy theories, and other drivel.

            There is nothing to debate.

    • Thomas Dawkins says:

Any scientist has been wrong because science is based on observation, and the conclusions that are drawn early on when there hasn’t been that much data are often erroneous because of small sample size. But people keep asking scientists to reach conclusions before they’re really ready, and then they pounce on them when those early conclusions change. Fauci also was the first of his staff to put on full gear to treat an Ebola patient because he wasn’t about to ask the people working for him to do something that he wouldn’t do himself.

    • Amos says:

I’m don’t know what type of biomedical research you do but those of us in the field know that your post is contradicted by facts. Without his leadership, the current situation would be completely out of hand. I’m quite certain if he had been permitted to attend the press conference where trump conflated measures which inactive COVID on solid surfaces for what works in vivo he would NOT have stared at his shoes like Dr. Birx.

    • IntBaritone says:

You could not be more wrong. My relative is a infectious disease expert and works at DTRA and there is no one he respects more than Dr. Fauci. It’s fine to have an opinion, but don’t act like you know things that you don’t know. Fauci knows his shit. Inside and out.

      Bye, Patty.

      • Hayne says:

        Dr. Fauci:
Opposing Trumps ban on incoming flights in late January 2020.
Telling the public the virus outbreak was nothing to worry about until well into Feb. 2020.
Flip flopping on masks. First mocking people for wearing them and then in July telling governments to “be as forceful as possible” on mask rules.
Claiming there was only anecdotal evidence for hydroxychloroquine use when scientific grounds for it goes back to 2005.
March 24, 2020 interview he would prescribe cholorquine to patients then flipped back in August insisting it doesn’t work when even more studies showed its effectiveness.
Yeah, Fauci knows his shit all right…

        • William Safford says:

          Stop repeating lies, Hayne.

Also stop repeating things out of context.

        • Fan says:

Real science constantly revises its data and analyses, and that’s why science makes progress. That’s something the Bible-quoting MAGA crowd will not understand.

    • William Safford says:

Patricia, just stop it. Let go of your precious lies, and just stop it.

    • American MD says:

Dr. Fauci is a practicing physician, hardly a bureaucrat. He has guided America through several pandemics dating back to AIDS.
      https://www.wsj.com/articles/anthony-fauci-doctor-covid-vaccine-ebola-11608776073

    • Hmus says:

Two generations of people in the performing arts currently owe their lives to the efforts of Anthony Fauci during the AIDS pandemic, and his ability to change his mind in the face of factual evidence – to know when he has been wrong and fix it. His job is not constrained to being a lab technician: it is understanding what the efforts of thousands of them amount to, and mobilizing forces to see their efforts succeed. Fauci is crucial in maintaining the kind of ‘organizations’ of which you so blithely speak. And he does so against the worst onslaught of moneyed ingorance the world has yet endured. I hope you will carefully re-examine the motivation behind your inappropriate enmity.

    • Rogerio says:

Don’t forget to wear your mask Patricia.

    • Trixie Mattel says:

      Patty don’t start.

    • Toni says:

Where didnyoi get your medical degree and study immunology? Trump U?

      • Hayne says:

No, but here’s some who have real degrees also..

        • Fan says:

This is a for-profit website (masquerading as a physician association) selling hydroxychloroquine. The founder has been featured on The Tucker Carlson Show, The Ingraham Angle, The Glenn Beck Show, The Charlie Kirk Show … and that’s all you need to know about her credibility.

          • Hayne says:

            Mission statement:
Honest Healthcare Solutions — From the Ground Up

The doctor-patient relationship is being threatened. That means quality patient care is under fire like never before. Powerful interests are undermining the effective practice of medicine with politicized science and biased information. Now more than ever, patients need access to independent, evidence-based information to make the best decisions for their healthcare. Doctors must have the independence to care for their patients without interference from government, media and the medical establishment.

America’s Frontline Doctors (AFLDS) stands up for every American looking for the best quality healthcare by empowering doctors working on the front lines of our nation’s most pressing healthcare challenges. We help to amplify the voices of concerned physicians and patients nationwide to combat those who push political and economic agendas at the expense of science and quality healthcare solutions.

            AFLDS is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization.

Our growing community of member physicians come from across the country representing a range of medical disciplines and practical experience on the front lines of medicine. Our programs focus on a number of critical issues including:

Providing Americans with science-based facts about COVID-19
Protecting physician independence from government overreach
Combating the pandemic using evidence-based approaches without compromising Constitutional freedoms
Fighting medical cancel culture and media censorship
Advancing healthcare policies that protect the physician-patient relationship
Expanding COVID-19 treatment options for all Americans who need them
Strengthening the voices of front-line doctors in the national healthcare conversation

            WHAT WE BELIEVE

AFLDS believes that the American people have the right to accurate information using trusted data derived from decades of practical experience, not politicized science and Big Tech-filtered public health information.
We support devolving critical public health decision-making away from Washington and closer tolocal communities and the physicians that serve them. We are steadfastly committed to protecting the physician-patient relationship.
We support incorporating front-line and actively practicing physicians into the nation’s healthcare policy conversation.
We believe that organizations like the AMA and other sources of medical information have lost their independence and should be treated with greater skepticism.
We believe that safe and effective, over-the-counter COVID preventative and early treatment options should be made available to all Americans who need them. We reject mandatory government lockdowns and restrictions not supported by scientific evidence. We support focused care for the nation’s at-risk population, including seniors and the immune-compromised.
Most of all, America’s Frontline Doctors is committed to maintaining the physician-patient relationship in the face of government encroachment. We are not the media – please share what you learn here.

Gold was at the Capitol on the 6th. She should tried for treason and conspiracy to commit murder.

          • Hayne says:

Thanks. If true about her being at the Capitol, it then follows that it invalidates all their work and findings. Thanks:)

          • William Safford says:

Her pseudoscience “work and findings” were invalid before the insurrection.

Her participation in sedition goes hand in glove with her lies and right-wing propaganda.

She should be ashamed of herself.

          • K says:

It’s not “if true”, it is true. There’s at least one photo of her (Gold) among her fellow traitors. You need to denounce her for what she is: a co-conspirator, insurrectionist Trumper. Those wacko people at the Capitol killed a police officer. She was there, she’s complicit. Why don’t you start a movement to deal with the reality of the situation instead of massaging whatever anti-liberal views that you hold? Be part of the solution, not a continuing part of the problem. I sincerely hope they charge her and put her in prison for a long time. Careful – you might end up in there with her

          • Hayne says:

Let’s accept everything you say about her is true. Does that mean her and thousands of doctors and scientists’ work to be invalid? Lame red herring argument fallacy…
“Careful-you might end up in there (prison) with her.”
            God bless your little heart:)

          • K says:

I’ll let your own words sink in: “Thanks. If true about her being at the Capitol, it then follows that it invalidates all their work and findings.”

“Does that mean her and thousands of doctors and scientists’ work to be invalid?” No, of course not. But your dear leader thinks it’s OK to drink bleach to cure COVID. There has to be a clearinghouse to vet which treatments work and which do not. You and your ilk want to hang on to the idea that hydroxychloroquine works but the rest of the medical community doesn’t seem to think so. You’re only doing so because, like Trump, the notion of being wrong is something you just can’t stomach. So, what do you do? You react. We can’t get our way, so we’ll storm our nation’s capitol because that’s how things get done: brute force.

I kind of feel sorry for you. You’ve given up your intellectual freedom because you don’t like the person/persons who are delivering the message, not the actual message. The people most at risk in a purge are the people who think they are protected by group that is purging. Guess what? They will dispose of you in a heartbeat. You’re being used and you’re being lied to to help them attain whatever goal they are moving towards. If that’s not the definition of servitude, I don’t know what is.

          • Hayne says:

            Well, that was…fascinating:)
Be careful Mr. Safford. You have a competitor.

          • William Safford says:

It is sad that you view another fact-based commenter as a “competitor.”

It would be much better if you would stop repeating lies, stop believing lies, stop using fake and discredited sources, start accepting facts, and thereby improve as a person.

So the question is, is this reprobate, insurrectionist, treasonous, quack of

            Please stop repeating fake information.

          • K says:

Not sure what you do when you’re not being a part of the problem, but you’re obviously not a medical researcher. Did you look at all of the citations? Guess not.

          • William Safford says:

K, the threading becomes unclear at this level.

Just to be clear, my message starting with: “Correction: more quackery there. Not ;quackery’” was directed at Hayne.

I try to remember to incorporate some identifying information about the message to which I am replying, if I think that the threading will be unclear.

          • K says:

            William-
No issue. I knew exactly to whom it was directed.

Keep up the fight. I feel, and perhaps I’m making assumptions, that because the rational side has often yielded, we are where we are. Let’s not let them continuously have the soapbox, for if we do, it will inexorably lead to more insidious platforms.

I’m a musician and am here to stay aware of what is going on in the music world. The conversation may have strayed but it’s still important (if SL will allow) to not let the “others” spout their BS ad nauseum.

            Be safe.

          • William Safford says:

K, I’m also a musician. I also come here first and foremost for music information.

It’s a shame that people from the fact-free right-wing bubble, and their sock puppets, attempt to dominate discussion in the comments section with lies, false conspiracies, and quackery.

It’s one thing to have a discussion of issues. How sad that so many scurrilous lies and so much disinformation is shoveled at everyone.

But here’s good news: President Biden and Vice President Harris. This is the end of a dark and evil chapter of our country, and the beginning of a much more promising one.

          • K says:

            William-

Well, you encapsulated it. Also watched President Biden and VP Harris be sworn in. Perhaps in some cosmic way we needed to go through this awful chapter to show our fellow citizens how fragile and precious this thing we call democracy is. Perhaps they should ask themselves, what did you think would ultimately happen if you got your way? I didn’t detect any leadership or governing ability among the traitors and thugs (among them the hydroxychloroquine wacko Gold) who stormed the Capitol and killed a police officer. (So much for Back the Blue.)

You are right: this was not about a single debatable issue, just an endless stream of falsehoods and brainwashing.

Regarding how this pandemic has affected the performing arts, well, we only need look around. Orchestras, for example, will not be getting back to normal any time soon, even with massive vaccine distribution. With some kind of overwhelming vaccine participation and perhaps finally, a national testing and contact tracing program, perhaps…perhaps, this fall we could see audience numbers creep up to 60 to 75%.

I know many people who voted for supported His Orangeness, but who are repulsed by what he let happen to our nation’s capitol. Perhaps a critical mass of them will give the new administration a chance a to quell this nonsense that we have been put through. I’m saying a prayer for that to happen.

          • K says:

            William –

Crawl back into your hole, Trumper. But before you do, why not take a glass full of bleach. That’s what your leader would do. (Did we see you at the Capitol on the 6th?) You’re not worthy of saying Fauci’s name.

  • Cynical Bystander says:

“He added: ‘What the performing arts needs to do is to do a little bit more of what the Germans are doing.”

Or at the moment, what they are not doing? Which is very much what they are, it seems.

But that is irrelevant. It is a figure of speech. If you want to express the wish that certain things should be done well, you say: do what the Germans do. Nodbody knows what the Germans are doing, but the sound of it is enough.

The New York State governor estimates that if we continue receiving vaccines at the rate that we are receiving them all the people over 75 plus SOME of the essential staff (excluding delivery people, food store clerks etc) that is, all those in priority group 1b who want the vaccine, will not be vaccinated until mid April. Others are in line after that.

Although the federal government initially said that everyone who wanted the vaccine in the US would be vaccinated by the end of June at the rate that we are receiving the vaccines it might be more like the end of 2021.

    • Hayne says:

      About the vaccine, you first:)

    • William Safford says:

Also, because of a lack of Federal leadership and funding, the existing vaccines are not being administered as rapidly or efficiently as they should be.

The good news: the Federal leadership will change on January 20th, if not sooner.

You don’t have both a social security number and a job so your illegal alien opinions are baseless.

        • William Safford says:

Sorry, sedition is suddenly out of fashion. Stop supporting your Orange Dear Leader.

        • William Safford says:

Which sock puppet are you, “Leonard Hughes”?

        • Ginny Hulce says:

Not sure what country or mental ward that Safford fellow is speaking from. Didn’t think he had a job. Good call! He’s a violent sort; likely antifa.

          • William Safford says:

Which sock puppet are you, Ginny?

          • Sean Lowell says:

That commenter has obvious mental impairments. “William Safford” is an interesting handle for a European girl to be using.

Real men don’t seek perpetual attention and affirmation. Lots of disgruntled females on the left looking for a fight over nothing just to be noticed.

They’re quite easy to spot. Very basic girls who are hormonal, argumentative, easily offended over anything innocuous, projects their own insecurities, petty, overweight, physically lacking and always perfect models of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Note the Women’s march and riot girls who grew old alone in bitter poverty from the 60’s.

          • William Safford says:

Gee, Sean, are you also a sock puppet? There are so many of them floating around here. NL chastised a puppeteer recently.

You’re putting quite the misogynist spin on your puppetry.

Vaccines work on both men and women. They also work on misogynists. No accounting for taste….

          • K says:

Trumpers and reprobate Q-Anon morons are decidedly misogynistic. They can’t stand women of any kind holding power or being in decision making positions. What are you so afraid of? If you’re so concerned about the “others”, why don’t you find some white women who will have intercourse with you and make babies? Oh, my error: in order for intercourse to occur you would most likely have to force yourself on someone. But keep trying; you never know!

        • K says:

You’re referring to His Fat Ass and all of his children, right?

  • Sharon says:

Actually I always wondered why Fauci, a mid level official, was so up front in this whole crisis instead of the Surgeon General, the director of the Center for Disease Control, which Fauci is not, or someone else.

Perhaps he felt comfortable more comfortable in the role than others because he was so prominent in the AIDS crisis when gay activist groups were screaming at him and his department to do more research

  • Peter San Diego says:

Is there a link to the complete text? From these snippets, it’s hard to know specifically what Dr. Fauci is referring to, not least since there seem to be differences in the approaches of different German states.

  • Greg says:

Regardless of what Fauci says today, you can bet he will say the opposite in due course. His “guidance” has been aimless and contrary. I get that they were figuring out the situation in real time and that the recommendations were subject to revision as they became more familiar with the disease. I just wish someone had the stones to stand there and say, “Look, we’re just guessing at this point and we really don’t know what is best. We’ll sort it out as quickly as we can.” So far, the only projection that has actually been borne out is Trump’s promise that a vaccine would be available by the end of 2020. Every other goal post has been moved repeatedly.

  • Birchley Poundbottom says:

*Gush* I agree Fauci is a total dreamboat, my cousin knows someone who is a doctor (not just a prole anesthesiologist) who says that Fauci really knows a lot. Try to show some respect, Karen.

  • JJC says:

    What will he say tomorrow??

  • Nijinsky says:

Isn’t that nice of his spicing up technique to add little bits now.

  • SergeM.D.PhD says:

Fauci is a pos and if you actually believe in him you are a pos.

  • JussiB says:

“if vaccination program was a success…”
HA! that means U.S. concert halls will remain closed in 2021.

    • William Safford says:

Thus far, vaccination programs in the U.S. are a mixed bag, in large part due to the utter failure of leadership from the Orange Enemy of the People and his minions to create and implement a vaccination plan.

Ditto vaccine supply: the Orange One’s people failed to lock in 500 million additional doses of vaccine when it would have been trivially easy to do.

      https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/07/us/trump-covid-vaccine-pfizer.html

There is much room for improvement. The good news is that the Orange One will soon be out of office and will return to his playpen in Florida, and adult leadership will return to the White House. The Biden Administration has a huge workload waiting for it, to fix the orange mess left behind.

So, there is hope for later this year. Time will tell.
