The Brno composer, pianist and writer Pavel Blatný has died at 89.

He worked at the interface of classics and jazz, was a frequent broadcaster and composed several film scores.

His poet brother Ivan died in British exile.

  • I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1993 when I conducted his “Zvony” (Campane) with the Brno Philharmonic on tour in Austria on March 3 of that year. His music will leave on. May he rest in peace!
