The orchestra has announced that Andris Nelsons is back this week, recording concerts to be streamed next month.

He has been out of the US for a year and is taking a considerable risk in flying at this time.

At least he is wearing a mask.

And yet again, “butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth.”

    • Concertgoer says:

      from Grammarist:

“The phrase butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth … describes someone who appears demure, innocent or sincere but is in fact unkind, devious or insincere. The idea is that the person in question is so calm, cool and collected that butter wouldn’t even melt in his mouth. A British phrase, it is more popular in the American South than in other regions.”

  • Fernandel says:

One full year absent from Boston ? Strange to say the least.

  • fflambeau says:

We are encouraging conductors to NOT be rooted in a home orchestra and that is a bad thing. Look at Ormandy’s long tenure in Philly; this is all in the past.

    • Petros Linardos says:

Good question, but can one really generalize? It is easy to argue either way, even in light of the Boston Symphony’s history: Ozawa, Koussevitzky…

  • Nijinsky says:

And yet another picture of an orchestra looking like a soon to be imploded Chinese Fire Drill…
Note: There must have been some explosion that came first. Something exploded, soon to come back together: ex and im.

  • RW2013 says:

    So overrated.

    • MacroV says:

Such a keen and penetrating insight. Thank you for sharing. But the relevance of this to the post is what, exactly?

  • Gustavo says:

One can see he hasn’t been swinging the baton for a while.

    Is that a golden Rolex?

    • Derek H says:

      For information –

He has conducted the Vienna Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Concertgebouworkest, Munich Philharmonic and Berlin Philharmonic in the last 5 months.

  • Amos says:

According to this morning’s Boston Globe the concerts will mix the Beethoven 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th with contemporary pieces.
