    Louder and Funnier!!!

    • Rogerio says:

      Or how about this;

Jove, armed with terrors, bursts the skies,
And thunder roars and lightning flies!
      Amazed, confused, its fate unknown,
America stands trembling at his throne!
While each pale sinner hangs his head,
Jove, nodding, shook the heavens, and said:
      Offending race of American kind,
      By nature, reason, learning, blind;
      You who, through frailty, stepped aside;
And you who never fell—through pride:
You who in different sects have shammed,
      And come to see each other damned;
Americas´s mad business now is o’er,
And I resent these pranks no more.
I to such blockheads set my wit!
      I damn such fools!—Go, go, you’re bit’

    • V. Lind says:

There wasn’t anything remotely funny about what happened in the Capitol yesterday.

      Four people are DEAD.

There was an (incited) attempt to overthrow the electoral process — which most people would call an attempted coup d’état.

The President of the United States declined to call in the National Guard to try to protect the elected representatives and their staffs while the building was breached by armed mobs, leaving them to the small, and overwhelmed, Capitol police force. (This in contrast to the large National Guard force brought to obstruct a PEACEFUL protest by BLM a few months back. They were treated as criminals without having done anything, while these armed white supremacists, egged on by a LUNATIC President, damaged the Capitol building and threatened everyone and everything in sight).

These people have been whipped up by His Lunacy with lies, claiming with zero evidence and against the overwhelming evidence provided by ballot boxes, the courts and the states, that their pet lunatic won the election. HE DIDN’T.

The Orange Blob, who claimed the size of his rallies proved he won ( a novel interpretation of the electoral process), flew down to Georgia for a final rally allegedly in support of the two candidates in a runoff election for Senate whose fate was crucial to his party. Georgia has for some time been a safe Republican seat, which he lost nationally, and where he recently phoned the Secretary of State demanding that the latter “find” him the 11,000+ votes he was short. His allegedly victory-proving rally succeeded in both Republicans — who were the incumbents — being defeated. Thus losing the party control of the Senate, as well as the House of Representatives. But that he doesn’t give a tinker’s about that is evident in that his rally was just a reiteration of his own wonderfulness, and of his alleged victory, not a speech in support of two individual candidates.

Meanwhile, still in office, the Big Baby, not content to suck his thumb and throw tantrums, is pardoning Republican criminals at Mach speed, while rushing federal executions through in breach of a tradition that has previously prevented them during the presidential transition (a woman next week). He will have executed more people in his final weeks than anyone since 1953 — 5 compared to the last to execute, George W., who notched three in his whole two terms. Trump will have totalled 13.

He has managed to get Anfar opened up to oil drilling, though nobody has rushed to lease the options. Environmentalists and successive governments — and the incoming president — have opposed this abuse of a pristine and ecologically sensitive space that can at best provide a small amount of oil or gas.

He can do all sorts of damage in his remaining 12 days, and is likely to seek ways to make it all as nasty as possible. As it is he has risked damaging the US by limiting Biden’s briefings and access. Despite this morning’s slightly chastened mumbling about a “smooth transition” (bit late for that) he was saying last night that he still might not go. If he doesn’t smarten up soon, there will be people waiting at the door to take him into custody the moment he leaves the building. Wonder what the Ecuadorian embassy is like in Washington…

      No, not particularly funny.

      • Rudiger says:

Most despicable, incompetent, vindictive, unqualified and just STUPID person to ever hold that office.

      • Jean says:

Well…. the Russians do find it funny ?

      • CRWang says:

I agree. I feel like a little bit of me died yesterday. Sad day. Still trying to process it.

      • Jack says:

“Wonder what the Ecuadorian embassy is like in Washington…”

Trump would more likely accept asylum from Mohammed Bin Salman.

      • Omar says:

There’s no issue yesterday’s little peaceful protest. It’s celebrated behavior by Democrats already.

Maxine Waters already proved that it is perfectly acceptable to do far worse over time.

        • BruceB says:

Agreed. Heckling people in restaurants is, indeed, far worse than trying to overthrow the government.

          /eyeroll.

          • William says:

I don’t listen to that cunt either BruceB. Who would?

          • Hayne says:

That “cunt” is one of the few voting against democrat/republican MIC foreign interventions. Gotta give her props for that.

        • William Safford says:

          Troll.

        • Fred says:

A police officer has just died from his injuries as a result of being hit over the head by a fire extinguisher by one of these “peaceful” protesters. Get back to me when you can show me when Maxine Waters killed anyone.

So much for blue lives matter.

          • Hayne says:

How about the rest of Congress funding of overseas wars killing innocents? BTW, not defending what happened.

          • Ed says:

Get back to me when you can show me Trump killed anyone. He was not at the little Capital demonstration.

BTW you’re too disgustingly happy about the Trump supporters who were killed. ANTIFA was present, infiltrating and causing their typical violence.

How many Trump voters do you people want to see murdered? Exactly how many more will make you and Norman happy???

          • Fred says:

I can show you multiple pictures of known Q Anon, white supremacist and Trump supporters in the Capitol, such as the pictures in this article, plus many videos of them openly bragging about having done so. It’s very easy to find them, especially since they are being quite proud to be there. Plus Trump himself congratulated them and told them they were special. So, are you now saying Trump was telling Antifa that they were special? Present us with any proof of known Antifa or be quiet.

By the way, Trump incited a mob to attack on the Capitol, and now a police officer has died as a result. In the US, he can be charged as an accessory to murder. US prisons are filled people spending the rest of their lives for murders committed during crimes in which they participated in, even if they were not directly involved in the murder themselves.

It’s amazing to see how cowardly they all got and blamed it all in an imaginary Antifa when they realized they weren’t going to just be able to walk away as if nothing happened.

          • Hayne says:

“…Trump incited a mob to attack on the Capitol.” Should read, “Media says Trump incited a mob to attack on the Capitol.” Thanks not necessary.

          • William Safford says:

            Hayne: stop it.

            Stop repeating lies.

““…Trump incited a mob to attack on the Capitol.” Should read, “Media says Trump incited a mob to attack on the Capitol.” Thanks not necessary.”

            No.

The Orange Enemy of the People incited the mob.

Listen to the Orange Enemy of the People’s own words. Listen for yourself. The video is out there.

I listened to it. You can as well–if you’re willing to have the lie repudiated by your own eyes and ears.

          • Audrey Symms says:

            Your answer is simply no.
Of course your claims are baseless.

Also, you have no authority to tell anybody anything.

            Be silent yourself!

          • William Safford says:

            Ed: stop lying.

The Orange Enemy of the People *incited* the right wing white supremacist mob to violence. It is on the video that he made himself.

I am sure that the video will be used in the upcoming impeachment proceedings, as well as to support criminal charges against him.

ANTIFA did not do this insurrection. That is a lie perpetrated by right wing propaganda sites.

How sad that you want to smear the names of anti-fascists with false and scurrilous allegations, when the actual fascists did invade the U.S. Capitol, threaten the lives of the entire U.S. Congress and the Vice President, and kill people.

Sad–but not surprising. After all, you support the Orange Enemy of the People.

          • Gerard Louiston says:

Thank you for being a voice of reason among the uneducated left of this purported classical music blog cum political rag.

The Hillary riots of 2016 were FAR WORSE. Commenters here are uneducated in our press like The NY Times. They rioted in numerous cities for weeks. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/10/us/trump-election-protests.html

Greg Bottini and William Safford are domestic terrorists with their Marxist, hateful ideology based on just one of their pitiful posts. They like Fred have only emotional arguments lacking in substance. They can’t cite any Harris or Biden policies at all. Historical facts spanning their lengthy careers are lost on these commenters as well.

We know Biden flagrantly lied about his education in 1988. For those who aren’t familiar with the US press we have a far left newspaper called the Washington Post now owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. He’s a white male of the ultra 1% liberal set. Here’s proof of Biden’s propensity to lie. https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/echoes-of-bidens-1987-plagiarism-scandal-continue-to-reverberate/2019/06/05/dbaf3716-7292-11e9-9eb4-0828f5389013_story.html

At this point his son Hunter is both a drug addict and tax cheat per the IRS. We also have a fading ultra-left cable outlet called CNN run by Jeff Zucker who is another rich, white shill out of NBC. https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/09/politics/hunter-biden-tax-investigtation/index.html

All Democrats have on their side now is a dried up old white guy who’s lies preceded him and is senile. Harris is just a wanna be black hack who can’t articulate her policies either. They have only the good graces of the fawning press and Obama’s leftovers to work with plus their ANTIFA and BLM members who are racist anarchists as they violently displayed.

Biden-Harris don’t want anyone to work, just get on government assistance to keep their voters financially weak and mentally controlled.

America is going the way of Hitler’s Germany, Venezuela and Cuba with the techie Brownshirts and authoritarianism. Glad I expatriated during the Obama years of languishing economic strength covered by sarcasm.

          • John Kelly says:

We’re glad you “ex-patriated” too, believe me

      • NYMike says:

        Excellent summation!

      • to be CLEAR says:

ONLY FOUR out of a few peaceful protesters were shot by the Capital Police after a short gathering. Norman is loving this even though not nearly enough Trumpists were slaughtered for his taste.

Hillary’s 2016 nuts terrorized multiple cities across the USA along with antifa and blm. They murdered and looted much more in comparison.

If you and your KKKlan on the boards weren’t so jealous of Trump and had better run cities and states you would have an appealing party not shedding voters and splintering into terrorist groups. The insurgents who used antifa and blm violence tactics have been easy to spot in dress and methods btw. Better luck next time.

          • L. Mannes says:

Democrats didn’t speak out or bother to stop their own people during the Hillary, antifa or BLM riots.

After Hillary was lawfully defeated, Americans had to endure the following WORSE behavior for MONTHS.

Just one example of the Leftist morons in action…
            November 10, 2016
OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — “Bonfires, fireworks, tear gas, and marching in the street — thousands turned out in Oakland to protest President-elect Trump.

Seven thousand were demonstrating, some set fires, a police car was vandalized and one officer was injured.”
            https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/10/us/trump-election-protests.amp.html

It got worse as the weeks rolled on making the Capital gathering look quite tame.

          • Hayne says:

            You are joking right?

          • to be CLEAR says:

Still waiting for Norman to post!

Evidence from outside the bubble the left is stuck in….

            https://youtu.be/7H7VOzHP2jM

Aussies have been watching the Democrats in utter disgust and horror over the last 4 years. We’re surprised at how composed the right has maintained themselves under constant assault.

          • William Safford says:

Jeremy: no, that’s propaganda from inside the right-wing Faux News bubble. Sky News is owned by Rupert Murdoch.

I’m not surprised that you cannot tell the difference.

        • Nick says:

“Hillary’s 2016 nuts terrorized multiple cities across the USA along with antifa and blm. They murdered and looted much more in comparison.” And these were called “peaceful protests”!!!

          • Anthony Sayer says:

Yes, but they were anointed by the ‘Good People’, so the deaths don’t count.

      • Greg Bottini says:

        Dear Ms. Lind,
Norman is being his usual “aren’t I clever” self by publishing this stupid and half-baked post. He’s going for cheap laughs, like a bad comic bathed in flop sweat.
How would YOU like it, Norman if an armed mob attacked and occupied Parliament?
And you, Ms. Lind, are right on all counts. You are saving me from having to do even more typing than I shall now do, since you put into words my thoughts and opinions exactly.
This armed insurrection and attempted coup, fomented and egged on by our own Hitler-In-Chief, is tragic in every way.
In my country, an armed mob tried to subvert the Constitution by the only means they understand: thuggery and violence. The big blue “TRUMP 2020” flags those traitors were waving as they stormed into The Capitol is evidence enough of who was behind this shameful event.
This failed coup d’etat is NOTHING to laugh about.
If if had succeeded, the 244-year history of the USA would be over. Trump would make himself Hitler-For-Life. And believe me, those of you commenters living in other countries would be feeling the fallout (quite literally) very soon afterwards.
I am ashamed, in front of the world, that the voting populace of my country, in 2016, elected this criminal, this traitor, this wrecker, this murderer, to the highest office in the land.
I am relieved beyond all measure that the same mistake wasn’t made twice.
A message to Trump supporters: If the events of January 6, 2021 don’t convince you of the brazen criminality and outright lunacy of your boy, nothing will.
It’s OK to change your mind and reject him. A lot of US voters did exactly that in November.
If you do not change your mind, after what happened yesterday, you are willful idiots and morons, and suborners of treason against a lawfully elected government.
Confirmed MAGAts are generally stupid anyway; unbelievably (to a reasonably intelligent person), those lowlifes actually took selfies of themselves in the act of committing armed insurrection and treason and posted them to their Instagram and Facebook accounts! Only MAGAts van be *that* dumb; they served up primary evidence on a silver platter to the FBI, who will be happy to have it when arrests for treason start being made.
I myself am certainly not perfect, but I’m no traitor to my country.
        I hate Trump. I hate Trump’s many co-criminal enablers. I hate MAGAts.

      • Allison Groth says:

You don’t even know any of Biden’s policies as you’re still blinded by hatred for Trump. Living off of the government in every way possible with no job is all you are fixated on.

        • Hayne says:

Don’t worry, CCP knows Biden’s policies:)

        • V. Lind says:

Where on earth do you get a loony idea like that?

We do know that Biden’s policies do not include overthrowing properly elected governments, confirmed by ballot, court, state and now Congress. Did you not listen to what the Twit-in-Chief (briefly suspended for inaccuracy and incitement to potential — which became actual — violence) actually said to his slavering troops? Did you not see the consequences?

How can anyone with an IQ larger than their number of digits actually believe this man has anything to offer a would-be great nation? He was sworn in talking — it was thought rather brashly at the time — of ceasing the “carnage.” Well, he has certainly succeeded in replacing it with a carnage of his own, unlike any ever seen in the Capitol, or capital, before.

If this is his, or your, idea of making America great, I despair of you and for your nation.

          • Stefan says:

You PROVED you have baseless ideas.

You can’t cite any of Biden’s job and economic policies.

If you or any of his supporters are educated in his SPECIFIC policies then simply LIST THEM.

Otherwise be SILENT as your clique mouths off to everyone who does not subscribe to your segregated ideology.

          • Hayne says:

            Can’t help you bud, sorry.

          • William Safford says:

            V. Lind, the trolls are showing the world their love of the Big Lie and their Dear Leader.

        • Greg Bottini says:

I do hate Trump, Allison, but my eyes are open.

      • Tom Phillips says:

And no doubt supported by many of the right-wing readers of this site who regularly litter these comments sections.

      • Greg Bottini says:

        Dear Ms. Lind,
My original reply to your absolutely accurate comment was not deemed acceptable for posting.
Suffice it to say I agree with you totally.

      • Nick says:

“There was an (incited) attempt to overthrow the electoral process — which most people would call an attempted coup d’état” .
A coup d’etat “attempt” was successful on November 3/4, 2020. During the night! We all know that and there is more than enough documented proof of it.

        • V. Lind says:

And all those states and all those courts and all those Congressmen what, were in on it? If there had been ANY “documented proof” of it surely some of it would have emerged by now.

There is only wounded vanity. In Trumpville, elections are legitimate when they win, not when they lose. He said as much in the plainest English of which he is capable during a debate with Hillary Clinton in the first campaign.

        • Hayne says:

Don’t forget the other stolen election of Jackson in 1824.

          • V. Lind says:

            Let’s not forget 2000…

          • William Safford says:

Hayne: Don’t forget 1876, where massive fraud in the South with the intent of disenfranchising the newly-established Black vote led to a fraudulent paper win for the Democratic candidate.

The Republicans also participated in the fraud: they traded having their candidate win, for the end of Reconstruction.

This led to the Jim Crow apartheid for the next eighty years, the aftereffects of which linger to this day.

Evidence of these aftereffects? The insurrection itself. Note the display of Confederate battle flags and other white supremacist symbols by these white supremacist domestic terrorists.

More evidence? Just read the right wing white supremacist comments to this blog post.

          • Hayne says:

“Republicans also participated in the fraud:” I agree with that, just like now.

          • William Safford says:

Hayne: “I agree with that, just like now.”

            Then show it.

Repudiate the Republicans who conspired with the Orange Enemy of the People in the attempt to overthrow the duly -elected incoming President and Vice-President.

Repudiate the Orange Enemy of the People and his literal attack on the U.S. Congress and his own Vice President.

Repudiate all the right-wing lies and propaganda that you keep repeating.

          • William Safford says:

Hayne: stop repeating lies from conspiracy sites!

How much clearer must this be?!

Didn’t you type in another message that you believe in the importance of facts? Then show it!

    • Erika says:

Democrats flee in fear as good people with guns occupy capital.

      • Alviano says:

        V. Lind is right. Had the mob yesterday a real leader instead of a clown, the coup may have succeeded (the capitol police were clearly complicit). It is only a matter of time before such a man (it won’t be a woman emerges). Think about that.
Nothing here is funny. These people, despite their costumes, are serious and dangerous, not funny.
NL: let’s move back to music.

        • Hayne says:

Now why would people who feel disenfranchised and spurned by any legal remedy be angry? I know, I know, they are all easily led bumkins who do what they’re told. They really can’t think for themselves all those white men, black people, old people, Spanish, women, children, babies, Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, etc who were at the protest. They are all idiots.
If Trump wanted an insurrection there would have been millions there.

          • William Safford says:

“Now why would people who feel disenfranchised and spurned by any legal remedy be angry?”

Why do you feel that sedition is a “legal remedy?”

Should these seditionist Republicans attempt to overturn the lawful results of the election, just because they don’t like the result? Should they be able to do so?

Do you really believe that that is what democracy is all about?

Speaking of lies, you continue to repeat right wing lies.

We keep calling out and correcting the right wing lies, over and over again.

You keep providing links. We keep debunking them.

It’s sad to see how many people like to repeat all these right wing lies.

It’s even sadder to see how many people believe these right wing lies.

Maybe you’ll let go of the right wing lies, and accept facts, one of these days. If so, you’ll become a better person.

      • John Kelly says:

You mean people like the guy in the “Camp Auschwitz” hoodie? Good people on both sides? I am European, I know fascists when I see them.

        • Hayne says:

          Oh, you mean antifa…

          • William Safford says:

            No, fascists.

            Get your facts straight.

          • Hayne says:

            Antifa, same thing duh…

          • William Safford says:

Hayne: NO. Facts matter. Stop spreading lies.

            Anti-fascist. Anti-fa. Antifa.

            Not fascist. Anti-fascist.

The fascists led the attempted putsch.

They are being arrested. This is good. They need to be held accountable for their crimes.

            Tell the TRUTH William!!

The video you have is CLEAR –
            https://youtu.be/2U5EcdIfxq4

You agree ANTIFA infiltrators who created the physical violence and bodily harm should be swiftly brought to justice.

You agree with the FACT that Trump supporters at the Capitol gathering pulled them away from their group into the arms of what little law enforcement was available.

You concede that your left-wing agenda is too small minded and must include more diverse sources on which to base facts.

            be best William!

          • William Safford says:

Erin: New Tang Dynasty Television? Really? That’s your “factual” support?

            Stop reporting lies and falsehoods.

      • Ines says:

Capital? Well I don t know about occupying the capital( you meant Marx’s capital?) It s a little complicated since Marx was with the left and the”good people” you reffer to are with the right if you mean the people which occupied the capitol.. And we should analyse what is “good” and what is “people”; it s clear who the democrats are; at least this.
Well, we ll leave it, your statement is too complicated .

      • William Safford says:

        Erika: are you being ironic?

If so, thank you for highlighting another important issue: the danger that these *armed* right wing insurrectionists pose.

If not, then you are either an example of a right-wing supporter of insurrection, or a troll. Or both.

        • HugoPreuss says:

Right. And the Republicans stayed manfully behind to fight against the intruders, right? Did you even listen to, e.g., Majority Leader McConnell after the Senate reconvened? Or to the Vice President?

What a pathetic attempt to justify an attempted coup d’etat. BTW, guns are fine in the hands of law enforcement. Not so much in the hands of people who want to overthrow the government.

          • William says:

The Democrats didn’t stand up for themselves as usual. Big, self-aggrandizing talk yet ran away from people who they falsely believe they are “better than”.

Instead they begged ARMED men (the Capital Police) to “keep them safe”.

By their cowardice, they made the point of LEGAL, again that’s LEGAL gun owners who wish to protect and defend their lives and the lives of those lesser than theirs (ie Leftists who HID).

As I’m the FIRST to notice; It’s quite uncanny security was so EASY to penetrate. Perhaps the “diverse” cops, fbi and secret service agents along with the normal Sharp Shooters were told to stand down by Pelosi. She and her gang of lefties were the FIRST to run off from a couple of people they deem as deplorables. No balls of course but too foreshadowing to be unplanned by Pelosi. The “alleged” pictures of someone sitting in HER office is even more staged pablum. Between the photographic, infrared and flash security anyone would have been immediately tracked, found and neutralized particularly with Congress IN SESSION. Once examined by professionals as opposed to emotional outcasts on the Left, more truth of what Pelosi, Schumer, etc did to BREAK DOWN SECURITY.

In terms the Left can understand, Pelosi planned and allowed for this to happen and escaped before anyone else. It is she, Schumer, etc who gave the tightest security in the USA orders to break protocols as they themselves retreated.

None of you have ever taken a tour of the premises so you are totally ignorant of how meticulously controlled the entire environment is. You Lefties don’t even know what DARPA is and how America is greater for their contributions let alone the other defense mechanisms and weapons at our disposal. LOL!

The modest protest march without Trump being present was well-managed and sedate.

Pelosi allowed the safety protocols of all of the representatives to be let down. She will be discovered, charged, prosecuted and punished for her deplorable actions under all US laws.

Now that the hitherto-closeted first world is beginning to understand what third world banana republics endure election after election, perhaps we will see more outrage at the tolerance by first world, leftist politicians of dictators like Nicolas Maduro, who manage to succeed year after year where Trump – thanks to the separation of powers – fails.

Imagine not only raiding the Capitol, but replacing it entirely with an all new, hand-picked legislature. Imagine taking protesters who dare speak against such usurpation and killing them in the streets, or capturing and torturing them, or having Cuban murder squads shoot them dead in their homes. Imagine starving the nation into submission. Imagine REALLY stealing every election since the mid-2000s. Imagine running an international drug syndicate out of the White House. Imagine, imagine, imagine. Venezuelans don’t have to!

So many leftist politicians in the first world support Nicolas Maduro and openly claim him to be a “legitimate” leader. It is obscene. They did it in on the floor of the House of Commons in 2019 when aid agencies were trying to deliver life-saving food and medicines. Here, in the classical music community, you fawn over Gustavo Dudamel – the “Dude”, you call him – a man who willingly propagandised Chavismo/Madurismo for well over a decade all over the globe, and a close personal friend of the current head of that new usurper legislature, the truly vile Jorge Rodriguez.

Isn’t it time we align our values into some sort of globally-applicable, coherent moral code? Or is vile hypocrisy justified by financial profit and personal ideology?

The righteous Republicans who didn’t care what damage he did to the USA as long as they got “their” Supreme Court are equally to blame. These enablers pretend that they were shocked by what happened but it was their connivance that brought about the attack on the Capitol as surely as the crazies.

  • William Safford says:

What we witnessed is the apotheosis of lies.

This is the case, no matter how much right wingers and their apologists will try to dance around it.

    V. Lind is correct: there is nothing funny about this.

This is what happens when a fact-free lie-based right wing white supremacist movement is egged on to violence and insurrection, by an unfit and unworthy right wing populist white supremacist leader of a country.

This was a coup attempt, plain and simple. It was fomented by the current occupant of the Oval Office. It may have been a sloppy and ultimately ineffective one, but it was one all the same.

This President and his violent lawless right-wing minions stormed and attempted to assault the entire U.S. Congress, the Vice President, and the Vice-President-Elect. He chose the day when Congress was ratifying the election of his opponent in the 2020 Election, President-Elect Joseph Biden to assault Congress.

(Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris was present, because she remains a U.S. Senator until she is inaugurated as Vice President on January 20th.)

How do we know that it was white supremacist? Well, besides for news reports, you can see the Confederate flags and other totems and markers in the hands of the protesters themselves. For those overseas who may not be aware of it, the Confederate flag was the battle flag of the Southern treasonous white supremacist slave-owning seditionists in the U.S. Civil War.

There may have been right wing sympathizers in the U.S. Capitol Police. They allowed it to happen. They posed for selfies with these white supremacists! Another possibility is that they received orders to allow it to happen. There is much to learn in upcoming days and weeks.

The Orange Enemy of the People must be removed from office. It will happen on January 20th. It should happen immediately.

There are legal ways to remove him. They should be enacted today.

Until he leaves office, the President of the United States is a clear and present danger to the country and the world.

After he leaves office, he needs to be arrested, charged, tried, convicted, and jailed.

Congress should impeach him again, try him again, remove him again, and disqualify him from ever holding office again. He must never hold office again. He is unworthy and unfit.

There must be investigations into the lawlessness and corruption of his Administration. This must not be swept under the rug. Many people must be held accountable for their crimes and malfeasances.

His supporters in Congress, who seditiously supported the obstruction of the ratification of President-Elect Biden and Vice-PResident-Elect Harris, must be held accountable for their anti-democratic actions.

    People must be held accountable.

    V. Lind presented an excellent summary. Kudos.

    • Sisko24 says:

When you write, “…there may have been right-wing sympathizers…”, you’re being very generous to some members of the Capitol Police because there is film of those same police opening barricades to the insurrectionists and posing for ‘selfies’ with them, most especially NOT stopping them from storming, pillaging, wrecking and trashing the Capitol. A ‘fifth column’ enables them and that’s true no matter fascist or communist fifth column. That is not supposed to happen in a true democratic republic.

      • William Safford says:

        Thank you, Sisko24.

I want to allow for the possibility that the U.S. Capitol Police made a judgment call: that allowing the insurrectionists into the building was a better approach, than risking an armed confrontation outside the building with mass bloodshed on both sides. It is better that property be damaged, than many people killed and injured in a standoff battle.

I am not saying that this is what happened. To be honest, I doubt it. It is, however, plausible.

      • BruceB says:

Again, another example from coups or coup attempts in other countries: the police &/or the military take sides, and the side they choose usually wins. We’re accustomed to reading about this kind of thing in faraway lands, the kinds of places that people come to the US to get away from… because we’re so much better. (sigh)

It is interesting — ahem — to note the difference in law enforcement response at the Capitol between the BLM protests of this past summer and what happened yesterday. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/national-guard-trump-mob/

    • William Safford says:

Correction: one extra “remove” slipped into one sentence of mine. The Orange One was not removed in the first impeachment, to the detriment of our country and the shame of the Republican enablers of corruption who refused to hold him accountable for his corruption and violations.

    • Hayne says:

Don’t forget the treasonous, white supremacist seditious, slave owning seditionists who seceded from Great Britain in 1776. One should be consistent even when spouting absurdities:)

      • William Safford says:

Big picture: stop attempting to distract from today’s right wing evils.

Why do you feel the need to be an apologist for them? Why do you feel the need to be an apologist for white supremacy, for insurrection, for right wing populism?

As for 18th century history, you are partially correct.

A number of those Founding Fathers who rebelled against George III and his abuses, were, indeed, slave owners.

Others were not slave owners, or manumitted their slaves.

Others were active abolitionists. Just one example: John Adams, our second President.

The tensions among these groups eventually led to the Civil War.

We see the thread of white supremacist racism, descended from these slaveowners and other racists, to this day.

Exhibit A: the insurrectionists on Wednesday.

Exhibit B: many of the posters to the SD comments.

White supremacy was wrong two centuries ago.

There is no excuse for it today.

There is no excuse for being an apologist for them.

There is no excuse for all the lies that you believe and keep repeating.

        • Hayne says:

So the secessionists of 1776 were traitors, then. BTW, you do NOT want to argue early American history with me.

          • William Safford says:

I’m interested in engaging in good-faith fact-based discussions of issues.

Instead, I find myself in the comments of SD, repeatedly contradicting right-wing lies and propaganda.

You are only one of the purveyors of these lies and this propaganda. You are more civil than most of them. However, you do not seem to learn from your errors, even when you have been corrected with the facts.

The issue at the moment is the right-wing insurrection and attempted coup in the U.S. Capitol last week, and its aftereffects.

Let me know when you want to have a fact-based discussion.

Until then, I’ll continue to correct the right-wing lies and propaganda that you keep repeating.

  • Jonathan Sutherland says:

Peter Sellars’ new production of ‘Il Ritorno dei barbari in Patria.

  • Joe Pearce says:

Mr. Lebrecht was wrong – very wrong! – to post what was totally a political comment, even if cartoons were included, on this music-lovers’ site. He got a load of immensely politically-biased commentary in return (almost all of it from the Left side of the aisle). If that was his intent, he succeeded, but dare anyone suggest that he ‘incited” his followers into their commentary? I do not recall his making light of the many dozens of other rioting incidents of a criminal nature over the past six or eight months in the U.S. Based on the responses I read here, perhaps it was politically inopportune for him to do so. Actually, the only comment made in response that seemed to me truly on the mark and totally intelligent was that from Sam McElroy, correctly comparing what happened yesterday in the U.S. with real insurrections and takeovers, like what has been going on for two decades in Venezuela. It was the best possible corrective to the incredibly lengthy vitriolic diatribe by V. Lind. And if Mr. Lebrecht was intending to contrast the terrible situation currently obtaining in the U.S. with that in Great Britain, he chose a most unfortunate time to do so. Brexit nightmares aside, he might want to recall that even after Magna Carta, it took many centuries before England stopped executing members of various Royal Families and their supporters and got it all straightened out in the early 1700s. But this site is not the proper place for commentary from either side of the Political Spectrum and would be better served by confining it to subjects relating to music.

    • William Safford says:

Joe Pearce: those are not cartoons. Those are actual photos of insurrections in the act of insurrection inside the U.S. Capitol.

      • Joe Pearce says:

Mr. Safford is quite right that they were not cartoons. Trouble is, by the time I’d read all the commentaries before making one of my own I’d quite forgotten that they were actual photos. But the photos, taken with Mr. Lebrecht’s comments on them, were quite cartoonish in their (or his) intent. Sorry.

        • William Safford says:

Joe, your error was understandable. The images look cartoonish. But the photos are real, as was the right-wing violence and the insurrection incited by the Orange Enemy of the People.

    • V. Lind says:

Sorry if you felt I was vitriolic — and here I was trying to be restrained. You know, not mentioning the “Camp Auschwitz” T-shirt I saw, or Ivanka Trump’s tweet (since removed) that the protestors were “patriots.”

Let me know if I got any of my account wrong. I’m not in the business of propagating fake news.

Hence the lack of where he’s from, his profession, etc. which shields him/her/it from reality. His fiction is amusing for awhile but he posts too much and rants too long to be taken seriously as someone who only found Lebrecht’s site last year.

Norman’s bot will reply to this post as quickly as possible just to try and spar. Something he’s not capable of in person since his alias is a nothing.

      • William Safford says:

    • Chelsea says:

Lebrecht is desperate for traffic along with his alter-bots “William Safford, S, DD, BOTtini” who are his pawns. They mindlessly comment on anything and everything in order to induce chatter like girls do.

Classical music has been graveyard fodder for quite a few years. Norm uses cunning, bitchy aliases like theirs in an attempt to rake up a younger audience since the recent “college educated” set gravitates toward rap as opposed to Rachmaninov.

These kids and foolish adults are clearly worshipping Che Guevara in their Biden win.

Forgive them, they know not what they have done…to themselves.
      Amen

      • V. Lind says:

I wish you would point out one thing Joe Biden has in common with Che Guevara.

        • Hayne says:

Dictatorship of the proletariat=socialization of production=centralized command of economic production= socialism.
Climate change initiatives which means centralized command of businesses.
Green new deal which is centralized command of businesses. Some may argue telling business what to do instead of taking direct control of them is fascism. Fascism is socialism.
          Censorship of free speech.
          Biden has differences with Che.
Big tech, and Wall Street gave huge contributions to Biden which dwarfed Trump.
          Their payoff?
          crony-capitalism
          corporate capitalism
          monopoly capitalism
These are some of the people behind the deep state. Biden? At this stage of his life he can’t even tell if he pooped his pants. It’s his handlers I’m talking about.

          • William Safford says:

Hayne: wow, your world view is really warped by the right wing propaganda machine.

You need to stop poisoning your mind.

      • William Safford says:

Wow, Chelsea, you checked off several of the right wing boxes:

        – casually demeaning women (“girls”)
        – projecting, by accusing others of your foibles (“aliases”)
        – racism (“rap”)

        You hit the trifecta.

      • Hayne says:

        Chelsea,
These people are not pawns or bots. They are for real.
It’s instructive (and amusing) to read how they think.
As for Norman Lebrecht, he may lean left but he is one of those rare people who allows different views on his site. His tolerance shames social media’s intolerance. I’ll repeat, his allowance for differences of opinion is rare these days.
Lastly, he owns his site. It’s his property and he can do with it what he wants whether I or anybody likes it or not.
About Biden winning, we’re all in for it now…

        • William Safford says:

You just made a common right-wing error.

You assume that the lies and propaganda that you repeat, have the same weight as facts.

You assume that having a right to express those lies and propaganda, is the same as having the right to be believed uncritically.

You assume that you have a right to make your assertions without contradiction.

You can repeat right-wing lies and propaganda. However, do not be surprised when people contradict you with facts and informed opinion.

Even better, stop believing right-wing lies and propaganda.

Now we know. Four years like these last four is what it takes.

    (welche die Fenster geöffnet
    haben, herausguckend)
Was ist das für Zanken und Streit?
    Da gibt’s gewiß noch Schlägerei!
Wär nur der Vater nicht dabei!
‘s wird einem wahrlich angst und bang!
    Heda! Ihr dort unten,
    so seid doch nur gescheit!
    Seid ihr denn Alle gleich
    zu Streit und Zank bereit?
Seid ihr alle blind und toll?
    Sind euch vom Wein denn
    noch die Köpfe voll?
Mein! Dort schlägt sich mein Mann!
    Hilfe! Der Vater! Der Vater!
    Ach, sie haun ihn tot!
    Hört keines mehr sein Wort!
    Gott, welche Not!
    Seht dort den Christian;
    er walkt den Peter ab!
Auf, schreit zu Hilfe: Mord und Zeter!
    Gott, wie sie walken!
Die Köpf und Zöpfe wackeln hin und her!
Schafft Wasser, Wasser her! Wasser her!
das gießt ihn’ auf die Köpf herab!

    (Die Rauferei ist allgemein
    geworden, Schreien und Toben.)

Apparently there is a senator in Idaho called Mike Crapo! US has some daft names to be sure.

  • David R says:

    Mr Lebrecht,

You might like to know that other costumes worn by rioters yesterday included tee shirts saying ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’, ‘Camp Auschwitz’ and ‘6 million wasn’t enough’.

    https://jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/holocaust-references-on-garments-of-trump-supporters-who-stormed-us-capitol/

There is nothing remotely amusing about any aspect of what happened in Washington yesterday, and I really wish you would take down this post.

    • William Safford says:

This shines a light on Benjamin Netanyahu. It makes the support of the Orange Enemy of the People by Netanyahu all the more offensive.

      • Hayne says:

You anti-semite! Wow! that was easy:)

        • William Safford says:

Hayne: you lied again, you know that you lied, and there is nothing funny about anti-Semitism.

I’m calling out anti-Semitism (the Orange Enemy of the People and his rabble), and hypocrisy (Netanyahu and his support of anti-Semites).

          • Hayne says:

And here I was, thinking you had a sense of humor.
            Silly me!

          • William Safford says:

            Stop lying.

There is nothing funny about this attempted putsch.

That you think it’s funny, tells us something important about your character.

    • Gustavo says:

Social media have become the platform for political stances that emphasise the idea of “the people” and can juxtapose this group against “the elite” (political decision makers).

Taking down a single post won’t solve the overall problem of how social media are being (mis-)used by “the elite”. Populists started this trend, and now virtually all politicians and leaders world-wide have Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Slippeddisc is a news portal focused at classical music – not a social network.

We may still wonder why NL draws parallels between the Green Hill and the Capitol.

      Götterdämmerung, maybe?

    • William says:

Those individuals were just xenophobic antifa insurgents.

Unedited videos show antifa nuts (of course) instigated violence and destruction at the front lines like the broken windows, doors and foyers.

Trump supporters are seen yelling at them to stop and physically pulling them away from portions of the Capital that were left mysteriously vulnerable by security measures.

  • Clarrieu says:

Your headline is quite right, Norman, though it relates to remote events…
We, at the Théâtre du Capitole (Toulouse, France) proudly presented between 2003 and 2006, in the high years of the Nicolas Joel era, Götterdämmerung and Meistersinger (cond. Pinchas Steinberg) with the participation of some Bayreuth Chorus members and their chorus master, the late Norbert Balatsch.
However, I can’t recognize the singers on your picture…
(Oh wait, that’s not what your post is about?)

  • Dave says:

These people aren’t “protestors.” They are terrorists, plain and simple. If you don’t think so, they were looking to hunt down the Vice President Mike Pence. They weren’t looking to have a pleasant chat with the VP. Trump gave them the incentive to do him harm.

Pence had his wife and daughter there at the Capitol building. What might have happen to them if they didn’t flee?

  • Novagerio says:

Schlingensief’s unaccomplished dream; Fafner storming Walhalla in an unrealized Ring Cycle. Except that the Giants live in Riesenheim and the Gods in the clouds, whereas the Capitol is supposed to represent its people…

…tarred and feathered and nailed by his scrotum to the Obelisk.

    • Dave says:

The roundup has started. Some of the terrorists have been identified. Some have been arrested and others have been fired from their jobs. Another bonus is that Trump has been cut off from Twitter.

      • Hayne says:

        Dude, you’re scary…

        • William Safford says:

If a mob hit and killed your father with a fire extinguisher, then disappeared into the crowd, wouldn’t you want the police to find and arrest them?

If the man who incited the mob were walking free, wouldn’t you want legal action taken against him?

So, why do you feel that the murdered policeman’s family deserve any less?

That is without getting to the question of sedition.

  • True North says:

This blog is becoming beyond ridiculous. Lebrecht has no serious journalistic credibility left – he’s only chasing clicks.

    • William Safford says:

What NL has succeeded at doing, is laying bare for all to see: the ugly effects of the fact-free right-wing propaganda machine, and the shameless right-wing minion followers who actually believe the lies and believe in fascistic authoritarianism.

  • Wotan he is NOT. says:

“Along with this peak in this perverted version of Odinism came an interest in Old Norse folklore, and its various (often historically inaccurate) interpretations throughout the centuries. Soon, folklore surrounding the Vikings and other Nordic medieval groups — including representations in modern popular culture — became visual references for these racist groups.“

    I take from this:

    1. I far prefer Wagner’s artistic use of a combination of Norse and Germanic mythology.

    2. Neither I nor the Southern Poverty Law Center find one bit of humor in this image.

This is not a costume. It is a White Supremacist uniform.
