Classical music is full of stuff made out to be much better than it actually is.
    Mind the gap.

it seems a complicated case. the lawyers will do well out of it

  • Bill says:

Might file this under “no good deed goes unpunished”

It would be interesting to see what the sales agreement says. Any agreement I’ve signed for such a transaction has spelled out a value for the tangible property included. But with two individuals and no dealer, the likelihood of someone not following best practices is not insignificant. Which is not to say there isn’t opportunity for unhappy outcomes when there is a dealer involved, either!

  • Paul Dawson says:

My career was in finance rather than music. Perhaps I can pass some valuable financial advice to musicians. If a deal is predicated on “cash hidden in a piano in Belgrade”, walk away!

  • Greg Bottini says:

    Let the buyer beware!

    • David K. Nelson says:

Or as my Contract Law professor put it: “Headline news: people might lie.”

Still the particulars on both sides of this tale that just do not hang together. Better that the cash be hidden in the piano than the Landolfi I suppose.

There is something unique in Balkan soil. This story seems to be out of some unpublished Milorad Pavic manuscript.

‘person’ is too honourable a word. Those close to him should best distance themselves quickly, he’s a stinking rat with no morals whatsoever towards pupils. Goodness only knows what he has on those protecting him.
