The pianist Richard Goode will join the full-time faculty of the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in the 2021-22 academic year.

He fills the void left by the death this summer of Leon Fleisher.

  • Basso Continuoso says:

If anyone can, he can. He is actually beyond good. If he can teach, that is. A big career does not make a great teacher. But Peabody has a lot further to go if they want to be a top-notch conservatory.

    • Rodolfo says:

He is an amazing teacher. I had the honor of studying with him and will never forget the many hours we would discuss about music together. Our lessons started at the piano and went on listening to records, book recommendations, etc.

  • John Borstlap says:

Goode is a truly GREAT musician.

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

Goode makes the first movement of this stunning sonata absolutely shimmer. What a glory of a work it is too.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Wonderful pianist. Great role for him.

  • Fliszt says:

Bravo, Peabody! Goode is the most worthy heir of Fleischer’s chair.

  • Greg Bottini says:

    Very Goode!

  • Petros Linardos says:

If he is as great a teacher as he is a pianist and chamber music partner, the Peabody has found a worthy successor to the great Leon Fleisher.

Goode in concert sounds much better than in recordings. I think of him as one of the greatest living exponents of the Viennese classics.

    • Been Here Before says:

I agree. I heard him at the Wigmore Hall in February this year play Bach, Mozart, Chopin and Debussy. Bach and Mozart were phenomenal. Goode is a master pianist.

  • fflambeau says:

    He’s a terrific pianist.

  • Paul Brown says:

Goode has taught at Mannes for the past 50 years and is going to continue teaching at Mannes while he joins the Peabody faculty.
