  • A.L. says:

I look fwd to FrOSch. Too bad the audio recording they released commercially on the Orfeo label left a lot to be desired and did not live up to expectations.

  • Smiling Larry says:

This Don Carlos was shown a couple of days ago, and is rightly being shown again already: great singing of a four-and-a-quarter hour “French” version with only a few questionable conceptual aspects (you’ll see!).
But it is a “covid era” performance from just last month, so was this a “super spreader” event? There are extended audience announcements relating to cautionary behavior; just a few masks in the orchestra pit; and not particularly widely spaced audience seating as far as I could tell. Is Vienna going forward with performances under these conditions, is it safe? I would love to hear that this brave experiment was successful, and if so could be repeated elsewhere. But if not, aaaaargh.
And I am grateful to SD for drawing our attention to these free streamed performances!

    • Armin Egger says:

I was at that particular performance. Two free seats on either side, masks to be worn until the start of the performance (later also during the performances). As far as I know no infection could be traced to the State Opera (or indeed any theatre).

      • operacentric says:

And Austria went into lockdown not long afterwards, I believe due to a huge increase in cases – as most of Europe. I don’t think we can blame the Opera for this!
