PIANIST:Janusz Olejniczak (piano),Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra under Tadeusz Strugala, music by Wojciech Kilar
it was fun to work with them on last scenes filmed in the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall

This is lovely playing. Thanks for posting this, Norman.
I have a number of Wladyslaw Szpilman CDs from Sony Classics, including the soundtrack CD from “The Pianist”, and I enjoy them very much. They’re worth hunting down.
Szpilman studied piano with Aleksander Michalowski and Jozef Smidowicz (first- and second-generation pupils of Franz Liszt, and considered the gods of the Polish school of pianism) as well as with Artur Schnabel. That’s some lineage!
He also performed with some of the greatest violinists of his day: Gimpel, Haendel, Szeryng, Totenberg.

And do not forget that the pianist used for the film was Christopher Hinterhuber!!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzthid id yhr “other” C# minor nocturne that Milstein transcrib ed for violin and piano. The posthumous opus suggests Chopin may not hae intended to publish it, or wasn’t quite finished with it. It is strangely disturbing, like its kindred nocturne in the same key Op. 27/1 that Alfred Cortot plays as an hallucination in his late recording. It shares Op. 27 with the enharmonic D-flat nocturne that Rubinstein and Pollini played so well and sooften.

Mikhael Pletnev has twp beautiful recordings of this posthumous nocturne, the earlier Virgin better than a DGGre-make.
