    Any Borstlap?

  • Normal. And it’s important to know that the RCO continues to have a very big part of the members who are Dutchs. I’am not sure but it’s maybe one half of the members

Here’s Van Baaren’s Septet (1952) which was a revelation to a whole generation of young postwar composers in Holland:

Ambitious youngsters got extatic of this piece that moved them to tears of liberated enthusiasm. At last Schoenberg’s spirit had landed, belatedly, in the Low Countries.

      PS:

The delays are caused by the country’s topography: a couple of meters under sea level. Ideas, if heavy enough and born on higher plateaux, get active in their direct environment, and in the course of time slowly roll down to lower areas, and when all corners of Europe have been filled with their remnants, they finally sip into Holland. So, it is not a process of active commitment, but of a process of passive entropy (the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity).
