The synagogue cantor Daniel Gildar has died in hospital, of an unknown cause. H ewas much in demand both as a singer and as a piano accompanist. He was about to perform the latter role this week in a gala online concert with the celebrated Yitzchak Helfgot.

Chazzan Gildar was 75.

Baruch Dayan HaEmet. This is very shocking and terribly sad. Cantor Gildar was warm, friendly, funny, and a wonderful musician. A superb singer and expert Chazzan, he was a hugely talented pianist and accompanist. I met him decades ago when I was a teenager and was fortunate to hear his Chazzanus for three years. I remember a really fun evening when after dinner we pushed him to the piano and he amazingly sight-read everything we put in front him – Beethoven sonatas, Chopin, etc. Yehi Zichro Baruch.

This is very sad news and the second prominent cantor to have died in a short space of time. May he rest in peace.

It was carry sad to learn of Cantor Gildar’s unexpected death. He was my BarcMitzvah teacher when he was 16. I knew then he was destined to be a Cantor. He knew every haftorah and Torah portions. May he Rest In Peace.
