This is just beautiful singing from an equally beautiful voice.

  • HB says:

Fifty-five years ago, I was privileged to sing a solo role in Cantor Moshe Taube’s moving Hebrew cantata “Nachamu, nachamu Ami” (Comfort ye, Comfort ye, my People), under his own direction.

I heard him chant, both in his great synagogue in Manhattan and on an LP of his own cantorial compositions, a signed copy of which I treasure and enjoy it to this day.

Moshe Taube was a towering cantor, possessed of a honey-sweet voice that could rise from hushed sotto-voce lyricism to stunning clarion power, and all of this informed by a supreme musicianship and infused with a deep faith and the Jewish soul crying out to God in joy and in grief.

Cantor Taube justly earned his place in the cantorial pantheon, where he now inspires the Hosts of Heaven. Thank you, Norman, for sharing with us his life and his passing.
