London manager dies of cancer, 74

Kaarina Meyer, one of the leading managers for orchestra and artist tours, has died of pancreatic cancer.

Multilingual, with a German father and Finnish mother, Kaarina grew up in Venezuela and the US. After almost 30 years at Harrison Parrott she went freelance as a tour manager, working with Intermusica, Maestro Arts and others until her retirement.

    Unlike COVID-19, pancreatic cancer’s a sure killer taking among others: RBG, John Lewis, Alex Trebek and my wife.

      It is also a lot more common than one might think. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 47,000 people will have perished from it in the U.S. this year, a number that shocked me.

      At least it’s not transmissible, as far as we know.
