Leipzig’s new Thomaskantor is Swiss
mainThe Swiss conductor Andreas Reize will be the next Thomaskantor in Leipzig, it was announced this morning.
Reize, 45, succeeds Gotthold Schwarz, 67, who will retire next summer.
Reize leads the Cantus Firmus choir and period-instrument orchestra and is music director of the Waldegg Opera. He is also director of the Gabrielichor Bern and choir director of the Zurich Bach Choir.

Also interesting and perhaps most relevant is the fact that since 2007 he has been music director of Switzerlands oldest (originally Catholic) boys’ choir in Solothurn.
Little wonder that such gendered anachronisms in the name of religion live under a cloud of horrific disgrace.
