A video report just in: The Israel Opera has dismissed 53 members of its chorus.

‘I’m in shock,’ says one singer.

Zach Granit, the opera’s CEO, said ‘it’s the hardest decision of my life: to have a season without chorus.’

  • Brettermeier says:

It’s really annoying that line breaks etc. don’t seem to work in the comments anymore. But thumbs up for no more thumbs!

  • Dan W says:

ROH could be in a similar position if they didn’t have such valuable assets to sell (ie The infamous Hockney). Puts it into reality what a perilous position Opera houses are in right now

  • Beinisch says:

A very professional and right decision.
No other way to continue holding an opera house these difficult days.

  • Mark says:

Wouldn’t think the chorus of an opera company would be on a substantial contact anyway

  • Sharon says:

Are they doing this primarily for the money or because of Covid?

  • Sharon says:

Is this being done for financial reasons, for social distancing in choirs Covid reasons, or both?
