The Czech Minister of Health Roman Prymula has just said that all cultural and sporting events – including theatre, cinemas, galleries, concerts, gyms and zoos – must close for two weeks from Cultural events will stop for two weeks from next Monday, October 12.

The country is experiencing a huge Covid increase, after having delared itself Covid-free in July.

It is fascinating to witness the takeover of the world by China while we simply watch such a Western debacle impassively, requiring at most to put on the mask correctly.

    • Fan says:

Could you explain your “take over by China” comment? Are you saying China released the virus to undermine the West, echoing far-right conspiracists? Mr. Lebrecht, is such comment considered acceptable on this blog?

      • Darrell says:

Wow, the bigoted comment has made its way, obviously asking for censorship.

Let’s see, there are those who only read the mass media and the so-called ‘fact-checkers’, which is respectable, but then you don’t have a clue about what’s going on.

The European Union, Japan and the United States, among others, are advancing legislative initiatives to prevent China from buying companies that are going bankrupt or are in difficulties due to the situation they (China) have created. The virus comes from there, in case you didn’t know.

If China has done it intentionally, I have my opinion and suspicions, time will tell if I am right, no rush, many pieces of information are needed, or do you already have them all?

However, you can go back to your ‘fact-checkers’ where you will also find a ‘safe space’, where no one will say anything different than you think, so no one can offend you and all that circus.

It is obvious Sars-cov-2 is no ordinary virus, it did not come from a market or bat cave, it was an accidental release from the Wuhan lab. Some of the symptoms and issues resemble those found in AIDS patients.

They had a Brucellosis outbreak from a vaccine plant a year earlier. Safety in PRC is not existent.

    • Maria says:

It is face coverings in the UK and Ireland, not masks! Wearing masks incorrectly on one’s chin, or disposing of them in the street, or not washing them, then a total waste of time.

      • engineers_unite says:

        MASKS do not work.
They are worse than useless, claiming to protect the wearer (virtue signalling). They cannot filter the 5um virions. they are totally incapable of it.

In fact all they might eventually do, but I doubt even that is to prevent an infected person coughing on others…
There is no greater sign of the sheeple times as this ridiculous belief masks can do anything at all, and the more people wear masks the faster the virus will spread (hey and the MM, state and police want you to believe the reverse huh?)

The restart of the pandemic is due entirely to seasonal factors, air temperature and humidity, which of course is why the whole thing fizzled out in summer, but is now back with us again – perfectly predictably, like a swiss watch.

It will go up exponentially until christmas and beyond with the newer mutations in Europe (far less dangerous btw), until everyone gets immunity.
It will fade again next spring and summer as expected.

It’s almost comical to watch the dead end dialogue by the brain dead Bojo. Damaged goods if you ever saw it!
The guy is even raving about powering the UK from wind now, – guess it must be powered by his hot air!

      • Doc Martin says:

Maria no, we do call them masks in UK/Ireland. Face coverings are a vague term, something else.

  • MacroV says:

The Czech Philharmonic was back to something approaching normal, so they’ll have to suspend.

  • Anthony Sayer says:

    And how many, er, deaths?

    • Maria says:

Nobody waiting for deaths this time round as we know far more than we did in March.

    • Doc Martin says:

It’s the 14 day cumulative figures for cases and deaths/100,000 you need to look at. Cz in a bad way.

    • Vic says:

I don’t think it is just about “er, deaths.” It is already known that the disease leaves many people with lasting health effects… So increased death risk plus lasting health effects – those two together are of concern.

      • Doc Martin says:

Yes “Long Covid” is a frequent presentation at GP Clinics, NHS has set up long Covid clinics for that reason. Common issues, fatigue, muscle pain, reduced lung capacity, clots thrombosis, PE etc.

My point was to show the trend in Czech Republic figures are increasing alarmingly.

    • Novagerio says:

869 death casualties, 100,757 total cases and 51.160 recoveries. The Czechs could easily deal with their cultural life, the way Berlin, Munich, Vienna and Salzburg have managed.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

The cold weather was destined to see a re-emergence of Covid-19. This virus is going to be around for a long time; better try and go for herd immunity because it ain’t moving!! Forget a vaccine; the common cold is a ‘coronavirus’ and there’s never been a ‘cure’ or vaccine for that.

What you CAN do is remain super fit and well, eating the right food and getting plenty of rest.

  • Doc Martin says:

Here is some comparative data from ECDC

    Czech Republic data from ECDC

    Sum of Cases 95,360
    Sum of deaths 829

    14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100 000 374.6

    14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths per 100 000 2.6

    UK data from ECDC
    Sum of Cases 544 275
    Sum of deaths 42 515

    14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100 000 201.9

    14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths per 100 000 1.0

As you can see the trend for Czech republic figures for 14 day cumulative cov-19 cases/100,000 and Cumulative number of deaths/100,000 is now greater than UK! This is an alarm bell.

  • Peter San Diego says:

What is the Czech for “hubris”? Not that they’re unique in that respect, not by a long shot.

  • A Pianist says:

A second wave of cases sweeps Europe…hey where’s Sweden in the worldwide new cases table today? Oh I see, tied at the bottom with ZERO, even though everything is pretty much normalized there. It will be interesting to see if this plays out to vindicate the Swedes…but they have some distance to go yet.
