Scherzo reports from Barcelona:

The Liceu has been forced to cancel the Savall and Don Juan de Gluck concert  scheduled for Sunday, October 25, because the orchestra Le Concert des Nations has reported that several members of the same are infected with Covid-19.

In the official statement, Jordi Savall’s company states that “as a result of a stay in Poland, several cases of Covid-19 have been discovered within the orchestra.”

Poland yesterday reported a record daily toll of 6,526 new Covid-19 infections.

UPDATE: Savall himself has tested positive.

Hope he gets well soon! I am still regularly watch his performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor. A truly amazing performance, I strongly recommend it if someone haven’t seen it.

  • Another Roman says:

Sad! They were gonna play this evening in Paris, as part of their ongoing Beethoven Symphonies Cycle. Saw the Eroica and 5th last year, fantastic! Great experience to listen to an orchestra with period instruments in a big concert hall! One of the best new period practice releases.

  • Darrell says:

I find the wording unfortunate, the official statement reads:

“arran d’una estada a Polònia, s’han descobert diversos casos de Covid-19 dins l’orquestra”.

It gives the impression that they have contracted the virus simply by being in Poland, when it is obvious that something else has happened. Nobody gets the virus just from being in Poland.

I hope they will recover soon and next time it would be preferable to write the statement in a more respectful and sensitive way.

  • Gustavo says:

“as a result of a stay in Poland, several cases of Covid-19 have been discovered within the orchestra.”

This is too simple an explanation.

The spread of COVID-19 in our minds is an exclusively anthropocentric, if not egocentric, phenomenon freed from any objective, scientific understanding of our natural world.

It is an expression of mankind’s progressive distancing from nature.

The commonly assumed superiority of mankind over nature is based solely on Judeo-Christian religious traditions that stir up fear of death and hope for eternal (human) life.

Here, a stay in Poland is believed to have caused several cases of COVID-19 – a potentially lethal natural illness that is spreading worldwide due to humans travelling worldwide.

What caused Jordi and his band to travel to Poland in the first place?

Why did the orchestra have to travel all the way to Poland to get tested for COVID-19?

  • Dennis says:

Are any of them actually ill? Or is this using “cases” the way the media have been all along with this one virus, against all medical precedent – Have we ever heard people say, “I have an asymptomatic ‘case’ of of flu or cold?” – calling “cases” mere positive tests, even without symptoms, based on unreliable PCR tests, with a high rate of false positives, and most of which are level of virus so low that the person is not even contagious?

Wake up people, and get over it. The “pandemic” from the standpoint of genuine medical concern has been over since early June. Take back your lives? Flatten the fear!

    • Will says:

Asymptomatic carriers of the virus can and do transmit it to others. Those others, to state the obvious, may get sick and die.

    • Gustavo says:

“Fear is the path to the dark side…fear leads to anger…anger leads to hate…hate leads to suffering.”

      Confucius, I think.

      • MezzoLover says:

Yoda – and he was not quoting Confucius.

      • Just like Trump’s tame radiologist, Confucius was not an epidemiologist or public health expert.

He failed to add that diseases readily spread by way of asymptomatic carriers, and that those who contract them via that route tend to end up just as sick or just as dead as those who contract the disease from some other source.
