Meaning we’re getting ready for another lockdown. Why not, when they’ve proved so successful everywhere in the world?

Anthony Sayer is absolutely correct. Aside from the universal mask vaccine, lockdowns are the most effective way to fight this deadly virus. If only (other) people could understand this. Why is it so hard?

Lockdowns are successful at reducing the number of infections, that’s certainly true. Most governments in the world will not rule out the possibility of using this method again at some point. However, they also have to consider economic damage; impact on education, inequality, domestic violence, and mental health, political turmoil, to name a few; and the practicality of demanding such restriction of freedom for a long period of time (vaccines will certainly not be available until next year, can people bare lockdown until then? Clearly not). All these factors lead directly to loss of human lives/poor quality of lives, and therefore must be carefully weighed when determining which option to take. Meanwhile, the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts gave only $50.28 to the arts in 2020.
