The Lebanese-Armenian Kevork Hadjian has been killed in the Nagorno-Karabakh war. He was 49.

A foreign volunteer in the Armenian Revolutionary Federation platoon, he was killed on Tuesday in the Varangatagh sector.

Raised in the Bekaa valley, Hadjian completed his musical training in Armenia and made his name singing nationalist songs to the Armenian diaspora in several European countries.

We can assume no words of sympathy from a certain tenor piggybacking on his significant other’s push.

    • againstbigotry says:

Let’s stop mincing words. Yusif Eyvasov’s nationalistic rhetoric celebrates the violence being wrought on the indigenous people of Nagorno-Karabakh. As we see here, the arts are also being impacted by this ridiculous support for Aliyev’s dictatorship.

War is such a terrible, tragic waste.
I hope these people find peace, and soon….

  • Elana says:

    My condolences to his family.
Most of the world thinks Turkish and Azeri as aggressors.
Unfortunately because of it,again one of the great Armenians died.

    • V. Lind says:

Well, the Azeri and whoever is bankrolling them are targetting civilian more than strategic sites. They have flattened a cathedral as well as the concert hall.

  • Le Křenek du jour says:

At least his actions were consistent with his songs.

Much as I abhor violence and consider nationalism the bottom of abyssal idiocy, I still regard someone willing to put his life on the line at crunch time as preferable to the grandstanding posturing from the cheap seats at the back from someone like Eyvazov.

Granted, that’s perhaps because I’ve been raised on a diet of Camus, Desnos, Cavaillès, Malraux, Marc Bloch, Henri Michel: people who put their lives on the line when it mattered. Some of them paid the price.

Be that as may: if one is even remotely aware of Armenian history, if one has the slightest inkling of what it means to have been born in the Beqaa, in Anjar, as an Armenian, one begins perhaps to understand a willingness to fight, at all costs, rather than to submit.

But look at an ethnic map of Hadjian’s native Lebanon, and imagine what that country — let alone the region — would be like, if a modicum of intelligence and common sense had prevailed.

  • Australian says:

So many Turkish/Azerbaijani trolls. Guess what? Most of the world supports Armenia.

  • Al Erikenian says:

Violence in all its forms is a horrific thing indeed. Inorder for peace to prevail, justice needs to dispassionately displace any and all forms of national pride. Some speak of the “world” taking a definitive side in this unfortunate violence… But it must be acknowledged that the UN has decided that one is the occupier and the other, the occupied. Know Justice, and the world shall know peace.

  • Honest Opinion says:

No matter what the outcome will be, innocent people are dying on both sides. Presidents and their families should be on front line in every war, guess what? There will be no wars.
