Just in: Van Cliburn suffers setback

The Cliburn Competition has been put back a year to May 2022 as a consequence of the Covid pandemic. It was deemed impossible to hold the contest at Fort Worth, Texas, with international travel restrictions and social distancing.

The announcement is thought to herald another round of US cancellations for spring and summer 2021.

    Well, with 200,000 Covid deaths and counting, why would anyone be in a hurry to go to the US? It’s not as if the person in charge sees the problem.

    Considering the severity of the COVID pandemic in the American South, particularly in Texas, delaying until 2022 is prudent.

    They can’t handle performances over zoom? JK – that would be pathetic.

    Don’t expect to see competitions until 2022 at this point. Chopin? Queen Elizabeth? Take note.
