Under the headline ‘Monaco Hosts Investment and Sustainability Event CC Forum’ we read that Placido Domingo will be ‘outstanding guest of honour’ this month at the forum’s VIP Gala.

Also on the agenda: HRH Queen Diambi Kabatusuila of the Democratic Republic of Congo will be speaking during the final panel about ‘Prospects, Challenging and Sustainable Investment Opportunities in Africa’. Other panelists include HSH Prince Michael of Liechtenstein, Medpoint CEO HE Shaikha Noora Al-Khalifa and Lord Marland, who served as the UK Prime Minister’s Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Business, Innovation and Skills, and Treasurer of the Conservative Party.

with some dubious royalty, a past-it Tory govt minister and several super-rich investment ‘experts’ for company, why would PD not want to entertain them? am sure they’ll all have a wonderful time.

  • The View from America says:

He’ll add so much to the proceedings, I’m sure.

  • Caroline Paquin says:

Maestro Domingo is an exceptional artist. He was a true actor, able to develop characters and make them have true depth on stage. He is a sophisticated musician, speaks fluently several languages. I had the honor of working with him for years. I have tremendous respect for him. Though I am a woman, we never had any type of romantic interest in each other: I was quite clearly married and left no grey zone to explore. I am very sad to see how everyone (all of whom must be perfect) is so willing and ready to attack him, and throw stones. I learned more from watching him perform than from many leading singers/artists. It could be nice to save a little respect for him. So he liked the ladies: did that truly single him out in that time period? Yes, times have changed, indeed.

    • Thinking aloud says:

Well said. Time someone made a comment in Domingo ‘s defence, instead of the constant carping which prevails on Slippedisc about his performances, who he associates with and his general behaviour. I suspect most of the commentators on this forum know very little about him and probably wouldn’t recognise him in the street. He is a great artist in every sense of the word. It’s a pity too many don’t understand that.

  • Diane Valerie says:

Minor pedant alert – How can you be a Queen of a Democratic Republic? Just askin’!

  • Madeleine Richardson says:

Africa is a continent on the rise and is a priority of the European Union. The DRC is one of the wealthiest African nations in terms of natural resources – untapped wealth of around US dollars 24 trillion.
I know Monte Carlo well enough to state that inviting poverty-ridden or dubious guests to a grand gathering simply doesn’t happen.

  • Madeleine Richardson says:

Placido Domingo is actually the guest of honour and will be recipient of an award In Recognition of Lifelong Achievements in Helping Victims of Natural Disasters.

The forum is a prestige event and last year received a greeting from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
