Copenhagen’s Jazzhus Montmartre club, home to all the jazz greats since 1959, has been liquidated by Covid. All staff have been fired.

The tiny club, with just 85 seats, could not manage on revenue from 35 tickets, its last manager said.

  • John Rook says:

Covid hasn’t liquidated this club, government responses have.

    • Stephen Diviani says:

Quite. I am so sick of some people blaming Covid-19 for every change when it is down to the decisions of politicians. A virus doesn’t engage with cultural or economic issues it simple seeks to survive, which occasionally involves some people dying who contract the virus. The overwhelming majority of people recover from the infection.

      • John says:

“Occasionally involves some people dying?” You two are heartless pricks. Mortality rates are up 200,000 in the last 6 months in the U.S. alone. Imagine a war with that kind of death toll. Check out the graph that compares Covid’s effect on Sweden with other countries in Europe. It’s not a success story. People who have survived often suffer lingering health effects. The only thing that would probably change your pathological thinking would be to contract it yourself, but I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, unlike you.

      • Larry D says:

Some people die. Ho-hum, fiddle-dee-dee, as long as it’s not ME.

  • David J Hyslop says:

Sad loss. Visited the club about 15 years ago. It was one of the best on the World jazz circuit.
