Building repairs on the the Rimsky-Korsakov Consevratoire in St Petersburg were interrupted by the discovery of a mortat mine in the basement, a legacy of German bombardments in the siege of Leningrad.

The site was evacuated while the object was removed. The bomb was then taken to a landfill site and safely exploded.

    Fight of the Bomblebee

  • Pianofortissimo says:

It seems that it doesn’t happen only in Germany.

    • William Safford says:

No, it happens all across the world. Many people are killed and maimed each year in countries such as Vietnam by mines and other unexploded ordnances.

  • Greg Bottini says:

So the headline does not refer to a Gergiev concert?

  • ArtsWits says:

Please check your source – it wasn’t the Conservatory, it was the Music College of the St. Petersburg Conservatory (you’ve got the wrong picture as well).

    • M2N2K says:

The picture is of the Conservatoire, but please share with us your source stating that it happened at the “Music College”.
