    Fabulous news!

  • Player says:

The shows goes on. Glad it is at Haus Wahnfried rather than the Margravial Opera House, as was planned at one point. Keeping it in the family…

    • Kennedy colette says:

It was not possible to see the concert at Wahnfried; only the music to hear, no images

      • Player says:

Yes, that was sad… I had assumed a concert in front of Haus Wahnfried, not inside. So we had a recital, not a concert. A little disappointing… more was possible.

  • Larry L. Lash / Wien says:

They will also perform some excerpts from “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.” The concert will be outdoors, on the front lawn of Haus Wahnfried, with an audience of 400 (tickets cost €5) properly distanced.

The concert will be broadcast live (16:00 CET) on Bayerisch Rundfunk’s website. If you are interested, please just click on http://www.br-klassik.de and wait for the black bar to load in at the bottom of the page, and then click on the arrow (play) icon.

As part of its Bayreuth online series, BR will also broadcast a 2015 Kirill Petrenko “Ring” Cycle over four nights, and – all in one, for about 15 hours non-stop – the 1980 Pierre Boulez “Ring.”

In between will be the 1952 “Tristan und Isolde” (von Karajan; Windgassen & Mödl) and the 1958 “Lohengrin “Cluytens; Kónya & Rysanek).

There are also a lot of interviews and analyses of the Wagner canon.

the 1952 tristan had vinay and modl in the title-roles

  • John Rook says:

    Wish I could be there.

  • Tully Potter says:

Toscanini conducted the Idyll at Tribschen on 27 August 1939, with 14 players including the Busch Quartet. The domestic première conducted by Wagner in 1870 required one fewer, as Hans Richter doubled on trumpet and second viola, having practised the trumpet in a boat out on the lake so as not to alert Cosima.

  • Edfar Self says:

Hola, Tully Potter, arbiter of Buschiana. Ddidn’t Hans Richter also play horn in early Bayreuth orchestras, in addition to his later conductorial duties? He afterward headed the Halle Orchestra after Sir Charles and Norman Neruda, Lady Halle, I think. Neville Cardus called Richter “Godfather” in the Manchsstrr Guardian for ol. Scott.

How are you bearing up through these trials? Do you remember Walter Legge’s saying “Einsam wandre ich vom Busch zzu Busch” as he waxed between Fritz and Adolf Busch over some assignment? I recall our correspondence when I reviewed your epic biography of Adolf Busch for Amazon US and UK, copying it by hand for UK consumption on request. Saludos!
