So sad to have lost Ida Haendel this week. What a player she was.

Wow. She sounds like she was inspired by Sarasate’s 1903 recording. I say this as a compliment, as she enhances Sarasate’s cloudy and distant audio legacy, rather than ignoring it. Thanks for sharing!

In my heart I cry « Brava, » and know that she will hear.

(The first measures are very close to the melody of « You’d be so nice to come home
to. » I wonder if Cole Porter was aware of Sarasate. He must have been.)

Ida Haendel was an extraordinary musician and a beautiful human being. Chapeaux bas!

==Her last years, lonely in Florida, were miserable.

I never understood why she stayed there. I believe at first it was because her sister or cousin lived there. But she’d had been better off in Europe. She could have hung out with people who really loved her, like Rodney Friend and S Isserlis in London
