The new Bayreuth Baroque opera festival has been confirmed for early September in the Margrave’s Opera House.

Highlights include a premiere of Nicola Antonio Porpora’s “Carlo il Calvo” and Leonardo Vinci’s “Gismondo, Re di Polonia”. Both audiences and performers will be required to wear masks.

  • Pianofortissimo says:

“Both audiences and performers will be required to wear masks.”

Baroque masks? Covid-customized Venetian carnival masks? That would be funny.

  • Elizabeth Owen says:

It’s a beautiful theatre but the seating is very close so I don’t suppose many will be able to view safely in person.

  • Olassus says:

Such gripping subjects: Charles the Bald (823–877) and Sigismund the Old (1467–1548).

    And no smoking.

  • A marvelous place I had chance to visit. it’s perfect to go there in the morning before to go in the afternoon on the magic hill…
