Andrea Bocelli: I broke the lockdown

The singer, who suffered mild Covid symptoms, wants to build ‘a heterogeneous front of reasonable people’ to resist further restrictions.

Bocelli, 61, told a conference: ‘I felt humiliated and offended because I couldn’t go outside. I violated the curfew because I am a certain age and need sun.’

  • Sean says:

Yes, it’s all about you darling.

    • Pianofortissimo says:

Agree. Narcissism is very common in the branch. However, maybe he is not that damn wrong – look at the Swedish way to handle the pandemia. Time will tell.

      • kaa12840 says:

Time has already told us about the Swedish experience. Compare their disaster with that of Norway and Denmark !

    • jay says:

His comments on violating the curfew brings to mind a much greater singer, Anna Russell, who famously noted most opera singers have resonance
were their brains ought to be.

  • Luca says:

Idiot! (And definitely not on my long list of appreciated singers.)

  • nonbarihunk says:

What a piece of work he is!
What was all the fuss about he says, as he personally didn’t know anybody who was admitted into intensive care with the virus?
Well I did. Several in fact, including two of his ‘colleagues’ Luigi Roni and Luca Targetti who both died from Covid 19.
    #BocelliVergognati indeed!

  • erich says:

Blithering idiot. This would now be a good time for all those with ears to be permanently spared both his speaking voice and his faux-Pavarotti bleating singing.

  • Brian says:

And the conference in question was a meeting of Italy’s far-right party. (Remember too, that Bocelli was invited to sing at Trump’s inauguration, though he eventually declined the offer.)

    • Allen says:

Well done for shoehorning Trump into this.

      • Kathleen K says:

Can there ever be a post or a tweet without it

      • Brian says:

It’s a reminder that Bocelli has a history of being chummy with the far-right. This isn’t an isolated incident.

        • Sue Sonata Form says:

Perhaps he is fearful of revolutionary thugs destroying his city, all the while being told they’re “peaceful protests” with the “Pravda-truths” of the extreme Left.

This is why you’re going to keep Trump! Only a bulldozer can stop dangerous revolutionaries. Does that make the bulldozer palatable? No, but necessary.

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

Anybody right of the far left (the modern Democrat Party) is now “far right”. I guess it makes the Left feel better about themselves. It shouldn’t.

      • Tom Blake says:

And every time members of the hypocritical, middle class, left-of-centre, self appointed intelligentsia are reminded that people are not listening to them exclusively any more, they throw a tantrum. And every time they do this, they lose more support.

Opposition to the BBC licence fee used to be the preserve of a couple of echo chamber blogs, now it’s everywhere. The game has changed and the best thing about it? It upsets all the right people.

    • Tom Phillips says:

Just whom I would expect him to support.

  • Andrew says:

Good to hear of people like Andrea who aren’t bedwetters. The Covid cult has so many adherents fully signed up to the anti-human, anti-social, anti-freedom authoritarianism. With death rates lower than the 5 year average, here in the UK, and the average age of a genuine Covid death being 85 it’s time for people to wake up and question why they’ve been played and whose agenda they’ve been following. Mr “Compulsory Vaccine” Gates and the other happy Davos folk?

    • An Education says:

“Genuine Covid death,” please explain this absolutely idiotic statement. If I am a 50 year smoker with the beginnings of emphysema and I get hit by a truck, you wouldn’t say I died of emphysema, you’d say I died from being hit by a truck. Is that not a “true truck death” as you say since I had emphysema? Also, you act as if its an all or nothing situation where a person dies or recovers with no trouble. That is far from the case, many recovery cases across all age ranges result in long-term collateral damage to the lungs, heart, and brain that can reduce lifespan and leave permanent damage. But yes, by all means, call me a bedwetter for wanting to preserve the quality of my life.

      • Sue Sonata Form says:

It’s the cost to everybody else and the damage to the international economy needed to ‘save’ you that’s the issue. It sounds like you’ve taken your health too much for granted anyway and you aren’t in the least prepared for a population-reducing pandemic.

A pandemic was always likely; a few every hundred years. This is nature’s way of controlling population and, in this case, it’s the old and medically compromised who are in its scope.

I can’t believe the hubris and entitlement some people have!!

    • nimitta says:

Thank goodness for people like Andrea and you, Andrew – it’s disgraceful that we’ve all been brainwashed by those “bedwetters” in the “Covid cult”!

You know, those…epidemiologists, researchers, physicians, and public health experts, who’ve clearly taken their marching orders from the sinister Bill Gates and the Davos “happy folk” (better known as Children of the Damned). Your comment might just stop the madness, Andrew, even though these monsters have already conspired to force us all to use seatbelts, stop at red lights, and drive only when sober. We shall overcome!

Come to think of it, I myself must have been some kind of dupe back when I was in clinical practice – all the pointless precautions, those tedious masks & gowns, the incessant sterilization! Really, I seem to have forgotten that I’m an AMERICAN! Over here, the folks who think like you and Andrea – shout out to my friends in Florida, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Arizone, etc.! – are the truly righteous ones. They have God on their side, or are already with God in Heaven, along with 150,000+ other “genuine” victims of COVID-19 here in the US. Talk about losing your humanity, society, and freedom!

    • Tom Phillips says:

Why are there so many anti-science and reason right-wing neanderthals on this site? Do you even listen to or know anything about classical music? Or are you all sent here by Breitbart?

  • We privatize your value says:

    He cannot see the problem.

  • Doug says:

Wondering where our very own Maoist cultural revolution is unfolding? Just look at the comments here.

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

You’re wrong; they’re “peaceful demonstrators”. It’s the ‘summer of love’. You couldn’t make it up!!!!!!

      Pravda-truth.

  • Peter San Diego says:

“I am a certain age and I need sun.”

He must have a property with space to amble in the sun without having violated the lockdown.

  • Tom says:

Bocceli should just fuck off. ‘I don’t know anyone in intensive care’. Stupid, selfish, typical elite privilege bullshit. He should ask the relatives of any of the 35,000people who died how they feel. Fucking diva.

    • Tom Phillips says:

And with absolutely no compensating level of artistic talent to speak of. Other than being blind, what is his real claim to fame?

  • john says:

And this is how it is spread…

Please consider doing things for the common good.

  • Edgar says:

He is big buddy with The Donald and has sung for Matteo Salvini and the like, as I heard on BBC Newsroom earlier today. This apple clearly does not fall far from the poisoned tree. Maybe the three of them could produce a hit album, “The Three Narcissists” – each recording at home, of course, which is no technological challenge. Not so sure about the musical challenge, but, hey, in Narcissus World, that’s not the issue anyway. Let you **** hit your fan, Andrea. As Lenny would say: “That’ll learn ya!” One fervently hopes…

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

“Three” is not nearly a representative number of the current generation of Narcissists; unless it has a “hundred million” written after it.

“The Culture of Narcissism: American Life in the Age of Diminishing Expectations” (Christopher Lasch). A prescient author indeed.

  • Dennis says:

    Vive la résistance!

  • Johnny Cazzone says:

Andrea, baby. It’s time for you to hear the truth: If you weren’t blind and relatively good-looking, no one would have ever heard of you. Your voice isn’t trained; there are thousands of trained singers whose voices are many many times better. You are, at best, a good saloon singer, certainly not an opera singer. No one cares about what you have to say about COVID-19 (other than your fellow Benitisti), because you have lived a charmed life without intelligence. Your have our pity, but nothing more.

  • Greg Bottini says:

    Poor, poor, baby.
Perhaps, Andrea, instead of bitching and moaning about it, you could have spent your quarantine time in worthwhile pursuits, such as learning how to sing properly.
(I hope someone reads this to him!)

  • Tom Phillips says:

Amazing that we still pay so much attention to this pathetic non-entity who is as intellectually, politically, and morally vacuous as he is musically untalented. Perhaps we should be grateful that he did not go any further in his practice of the law where he would have no doubt been engaged in the defense of such as Jeffrey Epstein and the like.

  • Simon Scott says:

I am with Bocelli 100% in this matter.
Like him, I ‘violated’ the lockdown lock stock and barrel(no pun intended). No government has the right to close down a nation. BTW, I never wear a mask unless I have to. They are a total waste of space.
Somebody is obviously making money out of all this.

  • Sharon says:

Andrew–my widowed aunt died of Covid at the age of 94. She left a bachelor son with no other close family. Because she is over 85 does that make her death acceptable?

My father is 88 and my mother 86 and they have been self quarantining for months so they can remain alive for their children, grandchildren, and each other. Although they have various ailments they, and those who love them, want them to live (as we Jews say) to 120 years!

When I was a nurses’s aide in a nursing (care) home and my patients told me that they wanted to die because the were “useless” I used to joke, “What do you mean you are ‘useless’? You keep me employed don’t you?”

And— as we have seen on Slipped Disc it is definitely NOT only those over 85 who have died. My friend lost her sister in her fifties to Covid. A single Mom she left an 11 year old child.

And there have even been some deaths of children.

All human life has quality and is valuable to the person whose life it is as well as to many others. Saying that it not necessary to sacrifice some of one’s freedom because only those over 85 will die is not only just discriminatory and ageist, in my opinion, it is downright sinful.

  • CGDA says:

So now Andrea is rubbing his shoulder with fascist Salvini, the Lega Nord and the far-right!

    https://www.ilfattoquotidiano.it/2020/07/28/bocelli-salvini-e-sgarbi-chi-dobbiamo-ringraziare-per-la-disinformazione/5882948/

Obviously he did not feel violated when he sang for Covid. How much was he paid?

    Hypocrite!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmYaUPlsIH8

  • CGDA says:

This is a distraction for another scandal in which the far-right Lega Nord, with whom Bocelli has been rubbing shoulders, is involved.

  • Harrumphrey says:

    Deaf singer said what?
