Some serious self-restraint:

Berklee College of Music’s Public Safety Department took to Facebook to apologize for allowing Boston Police to use the restrooms at the Berklee Performance Center on Sunday night after peaceful protests at the State House.

“Allowing police officers into the space was in no way meant to undermine Berklee’s support for Black Lives Matter,” the post said. “We understand that many members of our community feel betrayed. We are deeply sorry for the impact this had on our community and for perpetuating feelings of oppression, silencing, and marginalization.”

    For the love of God.

    • FrauGeigerin says:

What’s wrong with this people? They felt betrayed because a policeman used the restrooms? Letting a person, regardless of using an uniform or not, use the toilet is a basic form of human decency…

The moment people start seeing other people not as fellow human beings but as “thing” (a uniform, a race, a culture…), is when things go really wrong.

      The Loonie Left went from:

      Take a knee to Take a pee….

  • Doug says:

Until the ‘peaceful protestors’ show up at your own doorstep armed with Molotov cocktails.

Who will you plan to call then?

    • Brettermeier says:

“Who will you plan to call then?”

That’s the problem now, isn’t it. If I’d be black, I think I’d go with Ghostbusters before even thinking about what you are obviously thinking.

  • DeepSouthSenior says:

The only appropriate response I can think of is the ending of The Bridge on the River Kwai: “Madness! . . . Madness!”

  • Cubs Fan says:

If letting a cop use a restroom makes you feel oppressed, you are seriously mentally ill. For years we get hammered about how tolerant and understanding the Left it – they’re the most intolerant, fascist, frightening group around. This is nuts. If I were a Boston cop I’d leave now and go to a place that wants and respects you.

    • Rudiger says:

There is no place for those of the “moderate” persuasion any more, on the Left or (especially) Right.

      • Marshall says:

Good statement until it got to the end,
Yes, let’s decry the polarized world-but allow me the rewrite -“any more, on the Right, and (especially) the Left.”

Or how about “a plague on both your houses”

        • Sue Sonata Form says:

What is it the right has done, apart from being asleep at the wheel and having all the cash? Accusing them of violence, repression and grievance is just a monumental projection from the Left. They don’t care about your endless victimhood, as they’re all out there busy working, earning money and having spending power. And, of course, THAT’S the ‘sin’.

          • V.Lind says:

You suggesting the Klan is LEFTWING? They went in for the odd bit of violence. And they were well supported throughout their country.

          • MIND over INDOCTRINATION says:

No V.Lind. It’s a statement of fact which Leftists ignore in order to appear more morally rooted and of higher IQ. Collectively they are not and obviously mentally unstable, violent, intellectually inept as well as narcissistic. Note the 2016 violence perpetrated by only by their masses after selling the notion of ‘a narcissistic female is superior’ even though nobody can name how she was qualified and her reaction to date has been that of a mental patient in a psych ward.

History: “Though at the local level Klan politicians were both Republicans and Democrats, nationally it was the Democratic Party that was most associated with the Klan because of intense infighting at its 1924 Presidential nominating convention.“

…”Yet on the other hand, at the Democratic Party Convention earlier that year, delegates from Washington state, along with those from Oregon and Idaho, were unanimous in opposing a plank to the Party platform which would have repudiated violence associated with the KKK.”

        The ultimate PROJECTION.

    • Karl says:

Is there anyplace safe now? People are scared of the angry mob. People are getting fired from their jobs just for saying ‘all lives matter’. A college professor got suspended and is now getting death threats for not letting students out of exams for the Floyd funeral.

  • Alumn says:

The missing piece to this story is that Berklee’s buildings are completely closed. Students, who pay through the nose for an education there, aren’t even allowed inside to use the restrooms, but yet BPD are allowed in for non-emergency use. The school’s security lets certain groups slide in to use restrooms, but the student body is asked to go visit the Wendy’s or Starbucks.

  • Joel A Stein says:

Berklee is also no where near the State House.

  • Christoph says:

Good for Berklee. No sense in making life easier for the police before they go and beat up African-Americans.

  • Alan says:

When will moderate minded people say enough is enough on this matter? It is now polluting UK daily life!

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

Until wealth is comprehensively redistributed – to them – this won’t change.

Please read “The Gulag Archipelago” for a taste of where this is all heading. The Woke Taliban is now dictating what films and cultural artifacts we can enjoy. We’ve seen this kind of thuggery before. Dress up as compassion and caring – OF COURSE.

  • BP says:

“We understand that many members of our community feel betrayed. We are deeply sorry for the impact this had on our community and for perpetuating feelings of oppression, silencing, and marginalization.”
Other commenters are doing so, but can we just stop and ponder how insane this statement it ? “perpetuating feelings of oppression, silencing, and marginalization” by letting someone use a toilet ?

    • Pianofortissimo says:

      Have you ever been constipated?

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

American society (and increasingly the UK) has come to this!! Are you all proud, now? Profoundly neurotic, of course, but it’s so hugely sad. Once you fought external wars and, in the absence of these, you’re turning against yourselves. Regrettable. But I expect you’ll get another ‘dose’ of Trump because that’s what you need. He is the human bulldozer who speaks for many Americans who’ve had a gut full of garbage from over-educated snowflakes who haven’t anything better to do.

Are you even beginning to understand why you got Trump four years ago? I didn’t think so.

  • jingles_97 says:

People need to understand that police presence at any peaceful protest is needed for the safety of bystanders as well as the protesters, at least in principle. Now really is the time for the public and the politicians to take a step back and remind ourselves what our core values and principles are, and find a way to uphold them.

  • Francesca says:

If God wants to punish a person, he takes away his mind. USA, this is about you.

  • Lynn says:

You have got to be kidding. No human decency at all.

  • Karen says:

I am an alumna of this school, and they will not be getting any more donations from me.

  • M McAlpine says:

If policemen having a pee makes you feel betrayed and perpetuates ‘feelings of oppression, silencing, and marginalization’ in your mind then I suggest you get counselling immediately!

  • Alla says:

You have to feel sorry not for letting a cop use a restroom, but for your apologies, shame on you, guys.

  • Nijinsky says:

I wonder whether anyone sees the irony, because such petty gripes about whether someone uses a bathroom is right in sync with petty gripes about whether someone obeys or can obey a command soon enough to then get shot by the police, while possibly having a heart attack that’s ignored.

The students might wish their head of “safety” wasn’t quite so apologetic regarding petty gripes, then. I don’t think that if he put it on the line that they were there because of an emergency situation regarding rioting, and needed to use the bathroom that was available given the emergency, that the students would have created a mob and rioted as response.

Or is police work really just going along with ameliorating empathy for petty stuff, and disregarding the results. You might have a different society, otherwise.

And this circular stuff provoking people into reacting with vehement judgments as if that equates with humor validating judgments depending on the harshness of the sarcasm, or the magnitude of how crazy you think the other side you need for your sarcasm is….

What happens if you don’t need that for your “entertainment?”

It really isn’t what you think it is.

    You’re setting yourself up, yourself.

    • Sue Sonata Form says:

Take the rest of the week off!!

    • Nijinsky says:

In case my prior post wasn’t clear:

When someone is having a heart attack, and they can’t respond, I think that the logic of ignoring that or even the insensitivity of not being aware of that isn’t excused because the person couldn’t respond quickly or respond at all (because they were having a heart attack), and when they say they can’t breath numerous times that only adds to why it shouldn’t be excused.

And when the police are there to prevent a riot from getting out of control, and they need to use a bathroom in such an emergency situation, and it’s available, to prevent them from using the bathroom I think is too much like the discrimination going on that lead to the riots.

The police had a valid reason to need to use the bathroom, and George Floyd had a valid reason to not be treated in a way that lead to his death.

And that transcends whether it’s about the police or being black, it’s simple sensitivity to anyone regardless of preconceived ideas you have of them.

Stop telling us what to publish. If you don’t like SD, go elsewhere.

  • Jeff Sanford says:

Nobodies like Hillary Clinton, Obama, Biden, Schumer, Pelosi, etc. have not spoken out on every media platform to TELL DEMOCRATS TO STOP THE HATE AND VIOLENCE because they get off on it.

Trump is doing a great job and has been getting America working and healthy again along with keeping people safe. The National Guard being used to control the Left is a nice start. Better than us having to shoot..legally.

The Left is merely HANDING the upcoming election to Trump as they have nothing of substance to offer.

  • Dennis says:

Is everyone now, especially at arts and educational institutions, just utterly insane?

  • Bruce says:

“I did this thing; the intention was not to upset you, but I can understand why it did; I’m sorry and will try not to do it again” is pretty basic Relationship 101 material, not just between significant others but between any entities that want to foster an environment of mutual respect (key word “mutual”).

It’s funny how acknowledging someone else’s point of view is seen as weakness, cowardice, and/or grovelling. The tough, gruff, “never apologize/ never explain” types never seem to understand why their marriages ended.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Creepy institution, neurotic nation. They’re still not smart enough to understand why they got Trump!!

  • Grumpy says:

It doesn’t really matter, since the College will close soon and all management will be out of jobs.

  • fflambeau says:

Dumb. Whoever allowed this should be canned and caned too.

  • The sane one says:

That does it! The diagnosis is in, “You lost your freaking mind!” Parents, stop paying tuition to this idiotic institution.

  • Fiddlist says:

What the actual F. And why does a music school have a “Public Safety Department”? Is this the new PC term for Security, as Department of Defense is to Department of War?

  • Steven van Staden says:

… and we worry about Covid-19?

  • Lisa6 says:

Gone too far!!! I’m at a loss for words. Public Safety at Berlkee’s Music Dept. as well at the Music Dept. desperately needs to be to rethink the ignorance of their choice.
